Is Mark Richt Gone?

News to all, a loss to Kentucky isn't the end of the world. It's not like UK is 1-10.

If you're serious about football, as is the rest of the conference except for Vandy, then a loss to Kentucky is inexcusable. I'm not saying it won't be us in a week -- thanks to our severely depleted defense and the fact that I'm driving up for the game, a loss in Lexington is entirely on the table -- but whenever any SEC school except for Vandy and maybe Mississippi State loses to Kentucky, there's never one second of thought about "My, how well those honorable smurf-clad warriors from Lexington played today." Instead, it's all "WHAT IN HELL IS WRONG WITH OUR PROGRAM THAT HAS ALLOWED THIS CATACLYSMIC LOSS TO HAPPEN?" In all caps. Maybe once you guys come within two or three games of actually getting to play in Atlanta, everyone will be able to regard a Kentucky loss as just another tough loss in a tough conference, but for now, you guys are still right down there in the mud standing on top of Vandy. Sorry.

Condescending posts like this crack me up. I don't think that UK breaks the streak this year, but if it does happen, Kentucky finishes second, yes second in the SECE.

I doubt it, but if he has another season like this one then the hot seat will be burning trust me.
Georgia's not making a bowl this season, if they don't next season then Richt is gone. I would bet money on it, but I have none.

And Brian, Kentucky's previous SEC wins were over Auburn and Mississippi State. I will admit that there are some years, like this, where the Wildcats do decently, make a bowl and are generally not a pushover, but Kentucky just doesn't get circled on anybody's schedule. I don't see any reason to believe Kentucky will turn into a contender for the division. Even if you do pull it out against us and finish 2nd, that finish is still three games behind the winner. First loser would be more accurate.

At Florida, if you lose to a school from Mississippi too often, you get fired.

At Tennessee, if you lose to South Carolina too often, you get fired.

Kentucky may be the equivalent to that for Georgia.

Sorry

Finishing with a .500 conference record and finishing 2nd in the division when 2 of the traditional powers in the division are going through or just came through coaching turmoil isn't a leading indicator of your future placement.

If you finish 2nd this year, cherish it and make a DVD so you can relive it many years down the road when you're fighting with vandy to stay out of the cellar. :)

If you guys dont beat us this rear. This streak could eclipse Notre Dames 47 year beat down of Navy. We are already halfway there.

Some of you make some decent arguments, but I look at it like this- until 4 years ago, UK was consistently in a dead heat with Vandy for last place. 7-4 may not cut it in Knoxville, but in Lexington, it's good news.

Look, your reputation is what it is, and in football, it's awful. You're going to have to string together a few good seasons in a row in order for other SEC fans to quit regarding a loss to UK as a disaster. That's no condescending; that's reality.

For the first time in history, which validates Vercinge's argument.

I'm assuming a couple things...

1. Georgia loses to Georgia Tech next week
2. We beat Kentucky
3. South Carolina beats Clemson

That also happens to be in order of likelihood, but I think all three will happen. If they do, Georgia finishes with the 9th best record in the SEC. Think the SEC gets nine bowl teams?

They did it 2 and 3 seasons ago I think. And I figure UGA's got a big enough fan base to get a bowl game over another 6-6 team.

If that were the case, one of the lower bowls would jump up excitedly for UGA and more than likely the gamecocks would be sitting at home again

The lower bowls are all about matchup name and more importantly who sells out tickets well and gets viewing audiences....and UGA does that massively better, even at 6-6, than South carolina does

The lower bowls really pick more based on who sells tickets better, not the standings on how you finish your season

Georgia is 6-5, if they lose to Ga Tech and win their bowl game they will still finish 7-6. He's never had a losing season to date.

Another season like this in the next 2-3 years he would be in trouble though.

Nine bowl tie-ins, correct. However, two SEC teams are going to the BCS, so that should open up a spot for a tenth SEC team.

Richt is safe for at least a year or two assuming he gets rid of at least Martinez this year . Bobo might be next years' scapegoat. If UGA still isn't competitve after 2010 Richt will be next one out the door.

I could UGA traveling a few fans to see them in the Papajohns.com or Music City bowls.

No he has at least 3 years left

You are mistaken. Did you see the mass exodus of UGA fans with several minutes left last night, despite the fact that the game was still within reach? Guaranteed that Damon Evans did. Apathy kills a coach faster than losing, and Richt is already losing his fanbase.

If he loses to Tech this year, then goes 7-5 next year with losses to Tennessee, Florida, and Tech again, he might be gone after 2010. He's not going to get three years to work this thing out. Richt doesn't have a national championship in his back pocket like Fulmer did to make him bulletproof.
