Is Nico allowed to practice with the team now?

Erik Ainge made an interesting comment on that today. He said the incoming freshmen likely won't get any reps in practice since Coach needs to get a team ready. Maybe get in on some skills drills and learn how to take notes in meetings and where to show up. Made sense to me. I think people are expecting a lot of bowl practice that may not come until Spring camp.

yeah I'd say that is the case... it's more to get them accustomed to practice routines, not as if they were playing yet.... we gotta be ready to ball out in the orange bowl

Coach Matthews said on the radio this weekend that the coaches basically had 2 parts of practice. Since school isn't in session, the 20 hour rule is out the window. He said they would do an hour and a half "standard" practice focusing on the bowl prep and getting the players ready to play that were going to play. He said then they would send the majority of those players in to get their weight workout in etc while the rest (redshirts, young kids, and other kids that didn't play much) would get an hour with just them and the coaches. He said this was the invaluable time you get by making a bowl game. You basically get those 12-15 practices to introduce and get those kids ahead of the game where they can really hit the ground running in the Spring.

Coach Matthews broke that down very well. Should be required listening...

Hopefully they are already working to put some meat on those skinny bones. If you ask me Nico needs to get about 6 months of momma’s southern beans and cornbread in his system!

As good as he looks at playing the game, Nico definitely needs to bulk up to help protect from a physical beating.

Yeah, if he gets hit by an SEC linebacker at his current size weight etc. he will die on the field.

Yes NICO can participate in bowl practices… along with the other early enrollees.., but it doesn’t have to do with Early Signing Day, it’s simply once a commit signs financial agreement with the school they can then participate in practices…

It’s the same concept as years ago when there was NO EARLY SIGNING DAY… back then the commits would sign financial agreement with schools in Nov and / or DEC. then enroll early before the NSD in Feb…

I hope we are ahead enough to give him one series at the end. Would be good for recruiting, I bet.
