Is Nico allowed to practice with the team now?

Spread the word!!

Going to Auburn this Sunday for early Christmas with my youngest, her husband and two world class grandsons ages 12 and 10 (evidently they did not tap into my offerings in the gene pool). Will share this with the parents, probably not the grands. Living in Alabama had it's downside when we had to yield to in-state tuition rates. Mixing blue in with their orange was way better than dealing with the reddish alternative.

Since when? I thought, as long as they were enrolled, they could play.

But they won't technically enroll in classes til after the bowl game. I don't know all the rules or guidelines but I've seen before that only players who were part the current 2022 season are able to participate in the bowl game.

Plus from a logistics standpoint highly unlikely that any new EE would be up to speed or know the playbook with only like 7 practices in

I feel sorry for this kid. All the expectations, preconception of Vol-godhood, and frenzy. All the while the usual damnation and Miltonic hatred, or Guarantano gutting awaiting him if he even slightly underperforms. I pity the kid. Hopefully, Heupel can protect him from potential permanent psychological damage when or if the worm turns.

JG deserved some criticism, but it did go too far for sure.

The true criticism is of Pruitt, for leaving him in way too long. Pruitts repeated decisions to stick with JG are in the coaching incompetence HOF

He’s already making more money than anyone on the whole team, I think he’s good lol

The real incompetence was not recruiting or developing a QB to replace him. In retrospect he may have been the best option, but that itself is a fireable offense.

True. At the same time, give them a chance, it ... CAN NOT... be worse. lol

Amazingly he did get Hooker at the end.

But I would bet a very large sum that Hooker would not have flourished under Pruitt either.

Harrison Bailey was the most hyped QB recruit I've seen in a long time. I wish him well. Nico wants to play for CJH. 1st disciple of Mike Leach. He will be in practice. More importantly, he will be learning the offense play book. Nico worked hiss a$$ off to do this. I don't expect this guy to do anything less than seriously challenge Milton. Wow. Nice spot to be in, isn't it?

Hopefully they are already working to put some meat on those skinny bones. If you ask me Nico needs to get about 6 months of momma’s southern beans and cornbread in his system!

Don't forget plenty of meatloaves, baked potatoes, dinner rolls and banana cream pies.

YEAH-YEAH-YEAH. JG, per se, isn't the topic, SIGH! The point is the faction of Vols fans who relish posting denigrating comments about players.
They did it to CH and his mom, JC, AF, and that DL player who accepted money to help care for his daughter. Can't recall his name, was during the Dooley years, I think. NIL money would have helped him for sure. Anyway, my post was about those who RELISH putting down players who stumble, and do so repeatedly. We see too much hatefulness these days as it is, don't need any directed at our own players.

That's nice, but irrelevant to my post. The post was about how we have certain fans eager to criticize players who stumble, really eager. It wasn't about Nico's drive or motivation. But Joe-haters can't see this, they're too focused on putting the man down. So refuse to see what I actually said. My post was about how I hope Nico escapes this type of treatment, but pity his if he doesn't. Let me repeat what I said.

Erik Ainge made an interesting comment on that today. He said the incoming freshmen likely won't get any reps in practice since Coach needs to get a team ready. Maybe get in on some skills drills and learn how to take notes in meetings and where to show up. Made sense to me. I think people are expecting a lot of bowl practice that may not come until Spring camp.

Guys on VQ pod have said basically the same. It’s more about observing how practices are run and to get acquainted with the processes.

They can’t play so why would any coach spend time inserting them into the game plan practice routine.

Coach Matthews said on the radio this weekend that the coaches basically had 2 parts of practice. Since school isn't in session, the 20 hour rule is out the window. He said they would do an hour and a half "standard" practice focusing on the bowl prep and getting the players ready to play that were going to play. He said then they would send the majority of those players in to get their weight workout in etc while the rest (redshirts, young kids, and other kids that didn't play much) would get an hour with just them and the coaches. He said this was the invaluable time you get by making a bowl game. You basically get those 12-15 practices to introduce and get those kids ahead of the game where they can really hit the ground running in the Spring.

People do not understand how badly it hurt us under the Gump when we did not get bowl games and practices.

You get 12 or 15 practices for the bowl game. Our entire fall camp was 15 practices IIRC. Thats it. This is like getting an entire extra fall camp of practices, plus all that extra work for the guys who don't start as you described above. It is so very important.

No way we go 10-2 this season without all the bowl practices last year. It is THAT important for player development. Missing a bowl game kills player development. GO VOLS

JG as a human being, by all accounts deserves no criticism. Seems to be a great young man, and i wish him all possible success in life. He actually just signed as a practice squad QB in the NFL ...he was always great at practice. Good for him.

JG as a quarterback, and his performance as a QB for UT absolutely deserves serious criticism and there is zero doubt about that. He is the worst multiple season QB in UT football history in my 45 years of life. He LOST 2 out of 3 games he started. He threw back to back pick 6s in Neyland stadium to get us boatraced at home to a far inferior UK team. He consistently could not hit the broad side of a barn....throwing incompletions in our own backfield on passes so short that they are essentially just running plays, on an every game basis. It was painful to watch...and many here felt the dread of knowing we were gonna lose every week regardless of how the defense played. He was THAT bad.

Statistically, win/loss record, Amount of UT fans lost because they said they would never watch another game with him at QB...you name it. He was the worst UT starter in the modern era that played more than a game or 2.

We went 13 consecutive quarters without a single TD with JG at QB!! Yall remember that? We had NFL talent at RB and WR then as well. It did not matter. He was that bad as a UT QB. There is no sugar coating his time here. I wish the guy every success and happiness in life ....but he was a terrible college QB. That is a fact.

Spot on.

Although, it was not all his fault.

Pruitt being his ordinary stupid self, had no clue how to develop a QB nor field a decent offense.

Most of us knew what we were getting out of JG and Pruitt refused to see that.

As a human being, I wish him success wherever life takes him.

As a QB, well let’s just try to erase those memories.

Not just the practices, but the suspension of the 20 hour rule since class isn't in session is HUGE! All that extra time for extra practices, meetings, film watching with players, etc is invaluable in the development of the young guys.

For sure. It is pretty plain that the offense and the offensive minds driving the train could have made a failure out of Peyton. If you have been following the braintrust of this board much, they have made it perfectly clear that our secondary troubles are on the DB coach. Transitional properties of NCAA football insure it is not on our QB room at that time, but that staff. Somebody needs to call JG with an aplology.
