Since we have so many knowledgeable Memphis fans please chime in. I am curious to know that if Pastner doesn't make the big dance is he gone in April? Just curious don't flame

My opinion...probably not.

His 2013 class is top 5, and if you fire him you run the risk of losing some of those guys and losing others on roster to transfer. Not exactly and ideal way to start your 1st season in the big east.

He would however be on the hot seat IMO, and many questions would be raised nationally. I think recruiting would get a bit harder as questions would arise about his future.

I see no way he misses the tourney this year...in the c-USA, with that roster, there's just no way I see it. (if he did miss the tourny he should be fired but won't). I think they make the NCAA's and next year is a rude awakening when they have to play a tough conference schedule for a change. I don't see Pastner there 3 years from now, JMO.

It may be a bold prediction considering they are in C-USA but I see them struggling to get in the tourney. I agree with BTO that they have Top 5 talent and should be able to walk out on the floor without practicing and make the tourney. But I'll bet he will have to win that C-USA tournament again just to make the Big Dance.

No, he's pulling in too much talent to be let go at the moment. Plus he has and ace recruiter in Damon Stoudemire. However; if he continues a pattern of losing to big teams the natives in the Bluff City will and have gotten vocal.

How in the hell would they not make the tourney? lose in the CUSA tourney?

They struggled last year to make the Tourney. Had to win C-USA tourney to get there and hell they beat Tennessee twice although Vols should have beaten them in Maui. I mean they had Top 10 talent last year and I just think that losing Will Barton could make it a struggle for them. Now they do have Top 5 talent so they should make it.

Bleed - keep in mind several of the teams left in the Big East were teams from Conf-USA - Louisville, Cincy, Marquette. Plus Memphis plays Georgetown just about every year. I think they will compete okay in the Big EAST, but can Pastner maintain respect from the players. That's the area that stands out to me.

Memphis wasn't even close to missing the tournament last year. They won the C-USA regular season by two games (no C-USA regular season champ has been left out) and were top-20 in the RPI.

In fact, if they'd have tanked the C-USA tournament first round they might have gotten knocked down to a 10 seed and ended up with a more favorable matchup

They should have more of a team atmosphere this year. Barton being gone is not all bad. Pastner would feel a little heat but he won't be gone. They have a top 2 or 3 recruiting class for 2013 and still have a couple of scholarships to give.

Louisville Marquette and cincy aren't what they were when in the c-USA let's be honest. Add in UCONN, providence, st johns etc etc and you're talking about 10 teams in the BE atleast that are better than the best c-USA team(besides Memphis)

We were underseeded at a 9 seed, and won our conference reg season and tournament handily. We didn't "struggle to make the tournament".

It'll be interesting to see how Tiger High fares playing with the big boys for a change...they may be in for a Missouri-like rude awakening!

NIT??? bahaha get real.

Memphis will go into the BE as one of the most talented teams in 2013.

Funny joke, but doesn't mean we won't have a top 2-3 team in our first year in the BE.
Also, I fully expect Memphis to at least make the elite 8, at that time the Pastner excuse will be gone.

I will bet you anything you want Memphis will not be top 2-3 in BE next year.

I absolutely agree with this. They will probably finish in the bottom half of the BE next year (although not sure how many teams will be in BE next year). And I am interested to see how they fare this season although in that joke of a conference if they don't win it they shouldn't be in the tourney. But I won't be surprised if they struggle against the highly ranked teams including Tennessee. I don't think they win against Tennessee in Knoxville.
