Is Pelini possible?

If you look just at the data and not at his most recent game (1 game people), he would be a very good hire.

49-18 record. Never won less than 9 games.
DC at LSU and had the number 3 defense in the land. Beat us in 2007. Also, helped nab some great recruiting classes while at LSU so he knows the land.

Hey guys, long time husker fan, new to the board. raised here in Lincoln, NE however my parents had lived in murfreesboro for some time. Demos' restaurant is soooo good and my mom actually worked there way back in the day. Anyways i'm not here to troll or anything but there are lots of rumors around here about Bo REACHING out to Tennessee. In the beginning it was being reported that TN was talking to him, but that faded away, not speculation is that he is reaching out to them. You can base all you want from the last game, but Bo is a good coach, i'd hate to see him leave but he is just not happy here. The media are a bunch of ass hats here, and the we Nebraska fans obviously act like it's the end of the world if we lose a game (you can imagine how it was after the CCG) In any case, Bo produces a great D every year, with the players he has, we all knew at the beginning of the year our D wasn't our strong suit and he still did fine minus the tOSU game and Wisconsin, it seems like when we get down early and they find something that works, we do a poor job of making adjustments. Also Bo has won 9 or more wins for 4 years in a row, which is one of only 4 coaches to do in NCAA D1. Just thought i'd share whats been going around

basilio just confirmed pelini's reaching out to tennessee...

Not just one game. Had 63 put on them by Ohio st. this year

I wouldn't mind Bo Pelini. Not sure we've even been in talks with him, but he has a solid record at Nebraska. You guys like to call him out on single game instances, and while they are relevant, you need too look at his overall record. Nebraska is pretty spoiled after CTO's tenure there so 9-4 & 10-3 isn't good enough for them (sound familiar?) so we could probably get him for 3-3.5mil which is a steal

I would take Pelini over Jones, that's for sure. But he hasn't exactly set the world on fire at nebraska, that's for sure.

Ok, I had mentioned weeks ago I thought Pelini would be a good option and of course I caught alot of hell when his Nebraska team was lit up this last game. When apparently he contacted UT with interest in the job I did a little more reading on him. ANYONE who thought Charlie Strong was a good option, Pelini destroys him in resume. Strong is 24-14 in the Big East. Pelini is 49-19 in the Big12/10. Pelini finished 1st in his division 4/5 years. He went 3-2 in bowl games. He has had 9 or 10 wins EVERY season he has coached. "Strong has SEC ties people say". Pelini was the DC at LSU for 3 years. His defenses were ranked #9, #5, and #20 in the country those years. He was DC at Nebraska, and Oklahoma. He spent 8 years in the NFL with the Packers, Patriots, and 49'ers. Are you kidding me??

AND HE CALLED US?????

Actually, now that I review Pelini's background and record, I can say he'd be a good, very solid hire. He's made Nebraska quite competitive again--more so than I realized--but his defenses have been somewhere between mediocre and bad. That's a worry. But he's got a much stronger track record than Jones. Here's the problem: Can we hire Pelini away from Nebraska--which last I checked takes its football rather seriously? We could get stiffed again, even if there is /some/ interest from the guy. Arkansas really showed how this should be done, didn't they--found a guy they liked, talked quietly and closed the deal before there was a lot of hee-haw about an extension etc. I can't quite understand why Wisconsin seemingly did little to retain their guy--or why he wanted to go to Arky. And meantime, everybody now sees us coming, hat in hand, from a mile away.

Yep, Bo Pelini is our best viable option at the moment, IMO. If Dave Hart isn't talking to him, Dave Hart isn't doing his job properly. He's PROVEN at the HC position vs Kirby freakin Smart.

You are right Lebanon--this guy has better background than Strong. I think he's perhaps been overlooked for whatever reasons--being in nebraska, I guess. Much better target that Jones--but could get hire him? That's the million-dollar question.

Pelini runs a two gap defense and it only works if you have the right players. If you look back in 09, when Pelini had all of Clownahans recruits as seniors (Callahan was a bad college coach but excellent recruiter) we had a ferocious D. We led the nation in points allowed (10.4) and I'm sure most of you saw the Big 12 champ game against Texas and how we completely shut them down and beat Arizona 33-0 in the holiday bowl. Point is if Bo has the players he can do it. But it starts with the D line, and the past few years our D line just hasn't had the talent and this year our linebackers were some of the slowest In the conference. I think that Bo believes if he can coach in the SEC he could get the players he needs, and what better place then TN with the tradition, facilities, and fan support? I really just think he's tired of being here and not able to accomplish what he wants. We bring in lots of 3 and 4 star guys who are talented, but an SEC school will always be loaded with consistent recruits.

He's got to be a hard-nosed guy with his nebraska background. Would be a good hire, but surely a long shot. I like Strong's credents but we need hard-nosed, smart and a passion to kick a$$ in the SEC.

.The Badgers run the same offense philosophy that most successful SEC Teams do. Run the ball and hit you in the mouth. He has had plenty of time to build the Cornhuskers and repair his D for this and got ran over by the Badgers. Again, Badgers run and hit you in the mouth. If he got beat that bad I don’t see him winning in the SEC. No Thanks

You need to rewatch the game my friend. First off they completely exposed our lack of LB speed by running side to side. Second our best DT was hurt so we moved a 240 pound DE to DT. That completely changed the game as wisconsins O line was getting a massive push. Imagine a 320 pound o lineman pushing a 240 pound DT, it creats a massive hole all game. We don't have depth on the line and slow LBs so they completely gassed us and kept mixing it up. Also see how many missed tackles you find, coaches don't miss tackles, they get you in a position to make tackles. At the end of the day it falls on everybody's shoulders but to base your post off of your so called logic is rediculous

If Bo actually reached out to us there's some love. I would make a generous offer and say take it or leave it. We need to make this hire and get to some recruiting. If he balks move on.

Again, has had plenty of time to recruit speed and depth. No thanks, no excuse for that type of blowout.

Two TD's were pick 6's so we will give Wisconsin credit for 56 points on the ground. Still unacceptable though

Brother, I respect your opinion and appreciate your feedback. I hope you all keep him, you will not hear me complain. Welcome to the board.

Nebraskas defense has dipped this year a little. Still MUCH better than Tennessee. in 2011, they ranked around #30. In 2010 they ranked #9. In 2009 they ranked #2. That defense with our offense this year would have had us 10 wins no question.

Is Pelini my first choice as HC, no. That being said, considering the mess we are in at the moment, I would take him in a heart beat...

Peleni has a better resume than Strong, Gundy or Fedora.

He has a Super Bowl Ring and a BCS Championship Ring ... only 45.

He would be a home run and has sent out feelers that he would be interested.

HE IS A WINNER
