To me it's very apparent the best available coach out there is Petrino. Now I don't get to listen to the sports shows that much during the day but, I do listen as often as possible & never hear him mentioned. Is this because the boosters don't like him? At this point, the hell with a mans personal life, we need a coach who can win! Start filling Neyland up again & his past will all be forgotten. This fan base can't take another "dooley type" hire!

At the beginning of the search I would have said no, however in light of recent events I'd at least talk to the man if I was Dave Hart

Well let's see...

He went from 5-7 in hist first year to 8-5, 10-3, and 11-2 at Arky.

While at Louisville he went 9-4, 11-1, 9-3, and 12-1.

I don't know what most people on this board are smoking, but that is some sh!t I can get behind.

Would you hire a guy who has a history of lying to his bosses? Despite that, I'd be in favor of hiring him on the cheap and writing a book full of morals clauses in his contract.

it is if you're trying to hire a moral authority; but i think we're trying to hire a double barreled badass of a head coach and not the former. i would support the hire.

the huckleberry bible thumping portion of the fan-base would have an absolute fit though...just saying.

Would not want a guy that could never be trusted personally or professionally. I don't care how good of a coach he is.

The problem with Petrino is that he is kryponite to any adminstrative figure that would have to sign off on the guy.

Sure, it sounds great, but he not only lied to his bosses, he potentially violated employment laws. No Chancellor, President, BOT, or AD is going to sign off on him at this time so close after what happened; at least at a major college.

I'm sure we could put in his contract that if he gets caught with a dead hooker or something we can fire him and not owe him a dime. He would take this job, no one else wants him. Look at the names that are being thrown around now... Some of you guys would really want 3 more years like the last rather than swallowing your pride and taking Petrino?

We are hiring a football coach. I'll take a man that made a mistake and that can produce wins over some "mama's boy". The man has lied, who cares...so has everyone on here including our old coaches.

Yeah i think that's the deal. Seems he's getting blackballed by the SEC. He's the best available and no one has offered him.

Well said indeed. This is exactly my sentiment. We need a powerhouse coach. I'd personally rather have Tressel, but both are good coaches.

People tend to forget a winners past transgressions fairly quickly. No one talks about the Kobe rape or the Ray Lewis murder anymore. One trip to the SEC championship and Petrino's faults will be forgotten quickly.

He actually interviewed for the AU job. It was said that it was terrible. That's why they turned their attention to Malzahn and Smart.

The thing with Petrino is we know he can coach. I think a lot are forgetting you have to have players to win.

Recruiting would be nightmare with Petrino can you imagine him going into homes to talk to momma's saying I want to make your son the best man he can be?

Honestly I'd rather have Petrino over damn near everyone we've asked.

He might be a dirtbag, but he wins and doesn't get into trouble with the NCAA.

Petrino would win big at UT. But Dave Hart is taking the high road and will not consider him.

We know he can coach so the question for me would be is Petrino chastened enough from the humiliation to pull off a redemption story? We love watching people in the public eye fail but we also love seeing them redeemed as well. Can Petrino convince anyone that he's sincere in his determination to learn from/not repeat his mistakes? If he can convince even a small portion that he's ready to do that then maybe giving him a chance to do so wouldn't be completely toxic to whoever took the risk. If he's still too egotistical then no way.

Offer Petrino 3.5 mil. Around what he would have gotten pre-motorcycle. Put in a 10mil buyout in the first 5yrs. Put in a 5m penalty if he gets a major NCAA violation or violates his morals clause

Insure yourself again bad Petrino while getting a coach and name

Done
