They’re in the process of replacing another DC, no internal promotion to HC from what I hear or anyone lined up yet, and they just told the players today also apparently.
Is Saban just dipping leaving Bama without giving them exit plans?
It's a nice thought that he just dropped this on them but I doubt it. Probably let the admin know weeks ago and they have been back channeling agents since.
I guess there really was something to that "he seems nicer this year in press conferences" after all. Remember after the Texas game, before he stepped away from the podium, he thanked the fans for showing up and being loud, and he seemed really genuine. Everyone thought that seemed really out of character for him, especially after a loss.Given that portal window just closed for Bama players and today being 1st day of class, this has been in the works for a while....
Timing isn't a coincidence
Isn’t a sign of a huge ego to announce it before the year so you can receive non-stop adulation from the media for an entire season? That was the path chosen recently by another “legendary” coach.I wouldn't be surprised if he did just drop this on them. Saban has a huge ego and wouldn't feel like he owes anyone anything.
I've never understood the "huge ego" riff on Saban. Of course he has a huge ego; the vast majority of college football coaches do. I've never thought his ego seemed outsized relative to his peers - in fact, I can name several coaches offhand who seem to have egos that easily surpass his.Isn’t a sign of a huge ego to announce it before the year so you can receive non-stop adulation from the media for an entire season? I don’t know how you do the job without a huge ego. Having a few million people taking shots at your every decision is not a job for someone with a lot of self doubt.I've never understood the "huge ego" riff on Saban.
