I know this has been hashed and rehashed, but I have not heard any updated info. Yesterday, to my knowledge, was supposed to be the deadline for entering the draft/coming back to school. What is the latest on Stokes? With the signing of this other JC PF it has me concerned...

I would say if yesterday was the deadline, then no news is good news. IMO, Stokes still has a ton to work on regarding his offense. He rebounds like a demon but his ball skills and shooting skills are terrible. At least one more year will do him good. The only thing that concerns me is that with Maymon back next season, will that draw enough attention off of Stokes to the point that it falsely represents his true skills? In other words, I don't want him to have inflated stats because he has less pressure on him with Maymon on the court and then tank out at the next level. I really want him to succeed in the NBA>

If he is smart he will. i think the right decision will be made. Martin will let him know hes not ready.

It's a bit unclear, but I don't think yesterday was the "real" deadline. Just the pretend deadline. The real deadline for players that have not declared is 4/28/13 I believe.

You are correct, but it is a little unclear. 4-28 is truly the deadline. But I know yesterday was some deadline too...But maybe a pretend one...

I think you yesterday was the deadline to declare with the ability to back out and stay before the 28th.

Here is a story about it on CBS Sports

NCAA's irrelevant draft deadline will mostly be ignored - CBSSports.com

from the story - "There's little to no benefit for any player to announce Tuesday or anytime before April 16 that he is declaring for the NBA. If a player does make it known officially, it means he cannot return to the college ranks. If he stays quiet, he still has another 12 days to gather more information -- and protect himself in case of injury."

A lot of people didn't think Tobias Harris was ready either.

He's just 20 years and in 26 games(19 starts) with Orlando he's averaging 17.2rebs 8.5rebs 2.1asts 1.4blks 0.9stls on 45.4% from the field, 32.1% from behind the arc and 75.0% from the line.

I want Stokes back but who says he doesn't return only to get Scotty Hopsoned? NBA likes to draft on potential and sometimes the more they see you at the college level, the more your stock drops. So I'm not exactly sure returning is smart and who knows if Martin will help him improve at all. Or maybe he gets injured and tumbles down the board like PJ3 and Sullinger. So many variables and to flat out say the smart choice is to return isn't necessarily true.

There are reasons to stay and reasons to go. Personally, I might go based on potential but that's just me. Lance Stephenson was another 5* recruit and left after his freshman season. He wasn't ready and because of it, he was drafted in the middle of the 2nd round. Now though, he's starting on what will be the #3 seed in the East this season. If you're talented, you'll have a chance to figure it out in the NBA. Being as highly rated as Jarnell Stokes was coming out of high school, he better dominate the college world in his 3rd season or his stock will take a hit and he will fall down the draft boards. Everybody gets drafted on Kentucky based on potential... Daniel Orton has been a nothing. Teague wasn't very good this year. Brandon Knight hasn't lived up to the billing. These guys were all smart to leave asap though. If they had stuck around and didn't dominate, they wouldn't have been drafted where they were. Teague was almost a 2nd round pick as is and Daniel Orton wouldn't be drafted let alone a 1st round pick.

I'll gladly take Stokes back though. It would be nice to actually make the tournament again.

Yesterday was the deadline for players who have declared to withdraw their name. The 28th is the deadline to declare.

The JUCO center says more about Yemi than Stokes. And the 28th is the deadline to enter, so that's the date to watch.

My guess is he is looking for any reason to declare. And some of that depends on who else declares. My question is does he have confidence that this staff has the ability to help him elevate his game?

I agree with this 100%...EVERYTIME a guy like macadoo, smart, stein etc is saying they're returning it improves his chances. Was really hoping all those guys would've declared, but Stokes is moving closer and closer to 2nd round lock IMO.

Not trying to knock what you are saying, however Stokes and Harris games are light years apart. I wish Stokes had the stroke that Harris has!

The big difference here is that Harris was a projected top 20 pick, and 1st round guarantee....Stokes isn't even guaranteed to get drafted at all at this point.

Jarnell is a ''Not Ready For Prime Time Player".(SNL) He has tremendous potential but he needs to hone his offensive skills in preparation to play power forward in the NBA. There are several players his size at that position in the league. On the other hand, he might be drafted as a center. :twocents:

No one can be 100% sure on this kid one way or the other. This is the weakest draft he will see in his college career, next year will be insanely talented. Still, I think getting his degree should be foremost in his mind. Without guaranteed money he could sustain a career ending injury, it's a big risk. Get the degree, you won't be sorry later.

Stokes is a homelessman's Jared Sullinger, who can't shoot free throws. He would not get drafted, nor does he offer much to a European team. This one is truly puzzling.

Not when he measures at 6'7.
