I would say if yesterday was the deadline, then no news is good news. IMO, Stokes still has a ton to work on regarding his offense. He rebounds like a demon but his ball skills and shooting skills are terrible. At least one more year will do him good. The only thing that concerns me is that with Maymon back next season, will that draw enough attention off of Stokes to the point that it falsely represents his true skills? In other words, I don't want him to have inflated stats because he has less pressure on him with Maymon on the court and then tank out at the next level. I really want him to succeed in the NBA>
It's a bit unclear, but I don't think yesterday was the "real" deadline. Just the pretend deadline. The real deadline for players that have not declared is 4/28/13 I believe.
You are correct, but it is a little unclear. 4-28 is truly the deadline. But I know yesterday was some deadline too...But maybe a pretend one...
If he is smart he will. i think the right decision will be made. Martin will let him know hes not ready.
I know this has been hashed and rehashed, but I have not heard any updated info. Yesterday, to my knowledge, was supposed to be the deadline for entering the draft/coming back to school. What is the latest on Stokes? With the signing of this other JC PF it has me concerned...
My guess is he is looking for any reason to declare. And some of that depends on who else declares. My question is does he have confidence that this staff has the ability to help him elevate his game?
Not trying to knock what you are saying, however Stokes and Harris games are light years apart. I wish Stokes had the stroke that Harris has!A lot of people didn't think Tobias Harris was ready either.
He's just 20 years and in 26 games(19 starts) with Orlando he's averaging 17.2rebs 8.5rebs 2.1asts 1.4blks 0.9stls on 45.4% from the field, 32.1% from behind the arc and 75.0% from the line.
I want Stokes back but who says he doesn't return only to get Scotty Hopsoned? NBA likes to draft on potential and sometimes the more they see you at the college level, the more your stock drops. So I'm not exactly sure returning is smart and who knows if Martin will help him improve at all. Or maybe he gets injured and tumbles down the board like PJ3 and Sullinger. So many variables and to flat out say the smart choice is to return isn't necessarily true.
There are reasons to stay and reasons to go. Personally, I might go based on potential but that's just me. Lance Stephenson was another 5* recruit and left after his freshman season. He wasn't ready and because of it, he was drafted in the middle of the 2nd round. Now though, he's starting on what will be the #3 seed in the East this season. If you're talented, you'll have a chance to figure it out in the NBA. Being as highly rated as Jarnell Stokes was coming out of high school, he better dominate the college world in his 3rd season or his stock will take a hit and he will fall down the draft boards. Everybody gets drafted on Kentucky based on potential... Daniel Orton has been a nothing. Teague wasn't very good this year. Brandon Knight hasn't lived up to the billing. These guys were all smart to leave asap though. If they had stuck around and didn't dominate, they wouldn't have been drafted where they were. Teague was almost a 2nd round pick as is and Daniel Orton wouldn't be drafted let alone a 1st round pick.
I'll gladly take Stokes back though. It would be nice to actually make the tournament again.
Jarnell is a ''Not Ready For Prime Time Player".(SNL) He has tremendous potential but he needs to hone his offensive skills in preparation to play power forward in the NBA. There are several players his size at that position in the league. On the other hand, he might be drafted as a center. :twocents:
