Are we seriously in a bidding war with Louisville for Charlie Strong? If Louisville matches will we go higher? I sure hope not, cause it's not like he's a slam dunk hire.

He is a hard worker to be sure, and his teams have done well enough, but there's nothing there that would suggest he can go toe to toe with Saban, Muschamp, and Richt. I want Charlie to be our coach, but the money being discussed is astonishing.

It depends on how many years. 5-6 yrs? yes! 3 yrs? Nope. 4 yrs.... uhmm considering what we're up against, I'd probably say yeah.

Hell no, let them blow their money on strong. If he thinks he's not good enough of a coach to be at a far better program in a tougher conference for the same or slightly more pay we don't want him.

How does paying him more than arkansas did for a more proven coach make any damn sense?

YES. It's all a business. If Strong gets us winning again, the University will make far more than their 18 million back.

You also have to ask this question. Can we afford not to? If we don't get Strong, at this point, who do we get? Someone like Dykes, Golden, etc? He's the last truly "big fish." UT is now in a pickle.

No. He's an unproven coach who has beaten, what, two ranked teams in his entire HC career. He's a good coach, but all of a sudden, everybody's acting like he's an elite hire who needs to be paid commensurate with Miles, Spurrier or Saban. This is Dooleygate 2-- panic and pay whatever it takes to get someone way down our want list. Only this is worse, because we're trying to buy someone who doesn't even seem to want to be here.

That's the whole point, why the hell should we pay a coach that has done nothing close to earning that 4mil/yr in the weakest BCS conference in the country when less is being paid for coaches that give us a higher chance of winning? You give big money to coaches that present a better chance of winning according to their resume, not someone who is apparently in love with a basketball school in a joke conference.

I'm not even saying strong would be a bad coach, he's just done absolutely nothing to earn anywhere close to 4m/yr right off the bat. If he gets us back to 9-10 wins a year and competing for the conference title I'll be the first one to say he deserves a raise.

Hell No!

Consider we could have got Butch Jones for 5 year at around 10-11 million. The man has the same record in the BE as Strong! "But he does not have SEC experience". So you hire SEC coordinators who do!

Fulmer we could have got for 5 years at 12.5 million.

Bobby Petrino at around 10-12 million.

Butch Davis at around 12-15 million.

I will support whoever Hart hires. I just have to scratch my head at this kind of money for a very unproven coach.

There are other "big fish" such as Davis and Petrino, not sure if Hart would go that route or not though. I wouldn't even call Strong a big fish at this point. I would like to see him hired but I think there are others on his level. It all depends on how much $$$ they pay him.

Well when ticket prices, concessions, etc. go up, it will be your money. it's all tied in together.

A coach gets us to 1 legit bowl and that just about covers his entire contract.

And if the AD is planning to pay that out anyways, regardless of the candidate, then those prices will also be going up regardless.

But there is a huge difference between Jones and Strong. Lville was 9-15 the 2 years before Strong arrived. Jones walked in to a pre-built ptogram by a coach who is now playing for the Natl at ND who NOBODY ever thought would ever get back to national prominance. Strong's 10-2 looks alot better to me than Jones'.

The same ones begging for the Gruden hire are the ones saying Strong is a great hire no matter the cost. They think recruiting will equal wins. Dooley had top 15 classses and we are the worst team in the last 100 years at UT. If Strong is not allowed to bring his "bag man" Hurtt along then his Miami ties are gone. We would not want Hurtt anywhere near UT anyway. "He recruited well at UF". Who doesn't? This is not going to turn out well.
