Harry Reid said all taxes in the US were voluntary but that's another thread

paying taxes for tanning and robbing a liquor store are not even in the same ballpark. It's LG-ish to pretend they are.

What if I changed my hypothetical to tax deductions. Should we disallow the deduction for mortgage interest just because more caucasions own homes than african americans?

so you're saying because statistically more blacks break certain laws they are unfair? Honestly, that's your belief (and you compared it to mortgage interest)?

Let's look at it in another way.

What are laws against crime on the books for? They are there to protect us from or at the least to control crimes that affect us all. Any of us can become a victim.

What are the tax codes on the books for? To tax certain transactions to provide for resources the government sees fit to provide the people.

The difference here is that laws against crime are there for the common good. Taxes on most items are paid by all and provide revenue for the nation, some taxes are specific and generate income for purpose determined by the government. In this particular case the tax targets a specific demographic and then provides funds for a much wider demographic.

Personally I think it's silly but I can certainly see how some would see it as a tax targeting white people.

obama is already seriously considering eliminating the mortage interest deduction for people who make over $200K a year. which is a tax on white people just like the AMT>

What would happen if the government tried to tax something that was only used by Black Americans?

Would that tax be fair and legal?

I will go on record saying that the liberal media would be up in arms. They would be speaking of segregation and civil rights lawsuits. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be center stage, calling out for protests and marches on Washington.

But to them, this is Ok!!
