There was talk about a couple coaches - Kenny Brooks and Shea Ralph - having success from game to game against our Lady Vols. "We'd played them before and made the necessary adjustments, and, well, there you have it."
OK.
But, what were those game-one-to-two infusions of genius? Well, the short, sarcastic answer would be ...Nuthin. But, let's not be rude about it.
We watched our System produce lots of turnovers, create more possessions, more shots, and more points against inferior opponents. We saw it ultimately succeed against a dangerous Florida State team; then, exhaustion set in to produce a ten-point victory over Iowa. So, a lotta cake, then wins over two quality teams. We ultimately crept back from 22-points down, and near-miraculously went from minus-10 at the 2-minute mark to beat Oklahoma. What a game!
It gets a little foggy from there, doesn't it? We coulda shoulda beat LSU at least once. Same for Texas. In fact, though the final four Longhorns were very good defensively in the second go-round, Tennessee literally made "leaps" of improvement beneath the boards in TvT-two.
UConn and Ohio State were our best wins, both of which we can attribute "pace" (the System) as the deciding factor. Of course, OSU also likes to play fast, but we were better at what we both do when it counted most.
In reference to Vandy vs Tennessee one and two, Coach Ralph said that there was actually very little to adjust. Was she (A) being modest? (B) stating the obvious? Or (C) a little of both? The most-correct answer is "B" because - and here's where it gets tricky - our game, it ain't complex. Evade the trap, exploit the 2-on-1, 3-on-2, and hit the open shots, many of which will be layups. Or, occasionally, just heave the ball full court, and Presto. Our Systematic dilemma is that the "acceptable" number of missed assignments in several games were too often too many.
The solution to this is straightforward. Clean up the press, add movement and design to the offense, and Bob's your uncle.
This System, it works! However, in a few match-ups we simply lacked the experience and proper personnel to win. But, it's coming.
The most "pressing" issues now are improved fundamentals, our freshman class, and those ladies in the Portal.
Cheers.
