There was talk about a couple coaches - Kenny Brooks and Shea Ralph - having success from game to game against our Lady Vols. "We'd played them before and made the necessary adjustments, and, well, there you have it."

OK.

But, what were those game-one-to-two infusions of genius? Well, the short, sarcastic answer would be ...Nuthin. But, let's not be rude about it.
We watched our System produce lots of turnovers, create more possessions, more shots, and more points against inferior opponents. We saw it ultimately succeed against a dangerous Florida State team; then, exhaustion set in to produce a ten-point victory over Iowa. So, a lotta cake, then wins over two quality teams. We ultimately crept back from 22-points down, and near-miraculously went from minus-10 at the 2-minute mark to beat Oklahoma. What a game!

It gets a little foggy from there, doesn't it? We coulda shoulda beat LSU at least once. Same for Texas. In fact, though the final four Longhorns were very good defensively in the second go-round, Tennessee literally made "leaps" of improvement beneath the boards in TvT-two.
UConn and Ohio State were our best wins, both of which we can attribute "pace" (the System) as the deciding factor. Of course, OSU also likes to play fast, but we were better at what we both do when it counted most.

In reference to Vandy vs Tennessee one and two, Coach Ralph said that there was actually very little to adjust. Was she (A) being modest? (B) stating the obvious? Or (C) a little of both? The most-correct answer is "B" because - and here's where it gets tricky - our game, it ain't complex. Evade the trap, exploit the 2-on-1, 3-on-2, and hit the open shots, many of which will be layups. Or, occasionally, just heave the ball full court, and Presto. Our Systematic dilemma is that the "acceptable" number of missed assignments in several games were too often too many.
The solution to this is straightforward. Clean up the press, add movement and design to the offense, and Bob's your uncle.

This System, it works! However, in a few match-ups we simply lacked the experience and proper personnel to win. But, it's coming.
The most "pressing" issues now are improved fundamentals, our freshman class, and those ladies in the Portal.

Cheers.

I'm glad to see that Kim has been separating the wheat from the chaff lately vis a vis the current roster.

We had some shortcomings in year one our three point shooting was eratic. When it was on we were great and when it was not we lost most of those games. The rebounding had some shortcomings as well to many shots missed the first time became rebounds and scores for the opponent the second time.

The system works it works well if you have the right players to play it. We have some of them and some were not at all situated to play it. I think when and if she get ten to 12 players that are all capable of playing it as it should be played were going to be big winners. She will always need to have 10 to 12 players that the system fits. I think we had something like 5 this past season. The rest did the best they could. I'm not worried about the system more worried will she be able to get enough players that are willing to play in it and be able to perfect their roles.

She thinks she can. She thinks she is very close with the returnees and the freshmen. She knows what kind of players she wants in the portal. I hope she is right about all of it.

I would recommend you visit the statistics against the SEC opponents and the weaknesses are apparent. three point shooting percentage besides Spear had only one other player even hitting 30%. Their final loss against Texas was something like 4 for 26 . the statement that the LVs were taken out of their offense is telling

I agree with Krich...'s missive above. One question I once asked PHS was what several players needed to work on over the summer? If I were to ask that question of the present coach the question would be "what areas of your coaching - offensive and defensive will you focus on to be more than competitive within the SEC?

and I, and all of us understand she will be !

PHS recognized she had deficiencies…and sought to address them. All great leaders do.

I think the subbing is the issue, a CP3, DT, Paige type player not gone want to play and be subbed like that, they not
Subbing is the issue, but in a positive way. We would not been in a lot of games we won without the subbing. The problems were talent and physical stature. We were unable to hit a high percentage of threes, defend the lane, and hit shots in the paint. We had a lot of turnovers off the dribble and were too slow to get back on defense when the press was broken. However, how many of the fan expected us to finish were we did in the SEC or reach the Sweet Sixteen ? We had an unexpected miraculous year and it is only the beginning

most players want to play as much as possible. If Cooper had played 30 minutes she could have averaged over 20 points. With this system you need a better 3 point percentage than we had this year.

Probably would have averaged over 20 with some better shot selection and better decisions at times…

Even with that she was a huge factor in success but let’s just be honest she did not make best of decisions at time which also affected her averages.

True, but she realized that she had to produce a lot because the team depended on her as their leader. I believe in the future, she will be more selective on her shots and will reduce her turn over off the dribble. She is a talented player and was the best ball handler on the team. She will have some help this Fall and will not have to carry most of the load. We have a really good point guard coming in and she can play the 2 position where she can be more selective on her shot selections.

Well Paige went home with a L vs this system.
If the system works like CKC wants it to players that average 25 minutes for team A vs 25 minutes for Vols. I think CKC tells that recruit our system will get you more possessions per minute ergo more shots per minute. So our 25 minutes is favorable to the O minded athlete IMO that is the way she sales it. CKC is a great closer, I mean if you sit down with DW and convince him whose family has been around sports forever. You are the coach to lead a storied program like Tennessee you should be able too close on D1 athletes you want and explain the fit. JMO
