Never say never. That said, Miami needs to do what Notre Dame needs to, in sitting back and being honest with themselves about their current status nationally.

Difference is that Miami, while it hasn't been good in a while, doesn't have fan support, they do still have a brand name and a mystique attached to them and could get their way back to prominence with a good hire and some cash flow into the program.

Notre Dame, on the other hand, IMO is too hamstrung by academic requirements, scandal and doesn't enjoy that same sort of cache with recruits. Current recruits were alive and probably remember the last time Miami won a national title. That hasn't been the case with Notre Dame for years.

You play in a crappy conference. South Florida has a ridiculous amount of talent. Hire the right coach and you're right back at the top. Imagine what Saban could do down there with that talent and that conference schedule.

The one caveat is this: there's a tension everywhere between grades/discipline/good citizenry and football success, but that tension is more pronounced at Miami than anywhere else because of the whole "The U" branding. Look at some of the recent comments by former Miami players; they seem almost more pissed off that The U has supposedly lost its putative swagger than they do by the fact that Randy Shannon wasn't winning enough. I'm not sure that you can both "clean up The U" like Shannon was supposed to do and win championships there with all that branding and baggage hanging over your head.

No way is Miami dead, but things aren't as easy for them as they used to be for sure. They'll be back with the right coach. And as for your argument with the gator fan, I'm sure they'd love to tell themselves that Miami can't possibly rise up and take that state back.

The mentality of "The U" needs to be brought out if they ever want to be able to win a whole lot again.

Absolutely agree and great point.

I have a friend who is a hardcore Miami fan and I think he would want to fight all of you all for talking bad about "The U", he is very touchy when it comes to sports lol. I totally agree with you guys though they need to lose that whole "Swagger U" thing. Win games and shut up.

Bo Pelini rumor is floating around for Miami now.

Pelini's comment ("I don't address rumor and innuendo") only fans the flames.

Miami just needs coaches...Plain and simple....Because of the talent they draw there they feel they do not need to hire a big name coach and that the talent will win all the games for them...As you can see that doesn't work...They get a REAL coach in there and then the U will make its comeback...Until then they will be mediocre and middle of the pack in the ACC which in itself is embarrassing....If they could draw someone like a Bobby Petrino there then they would become a super dangerous team again...Keep hiring idiots like Shannon and you'll never recover. :clapping:

Butch Davis had no problem winning big, graduating players, and keeping guys off the police blotter simultaneously. It's not near as hard as people make it out to be.

They're the 3rd best team in Florida.

And didn't USF beat them, too...?

The "U" has one foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel.

Well, yes. It definitely helps to graduate players when you have a coach who doesn't care if his players do their own schoolwork.

The question is whether they will commit to paying a guy and giving him the resources it takes to attract the kind of candidate they need.

I hate to think of what somebody like Gary Patterson could do at the U.

You can definately come back but your problem is your AD. I think he sucks. Miami is a premier school but doesn't go out and get a premeir coach. You haven't had one since Davis and that is rediculous. Get a real AD who wants to being the U back and it's on.

Enter Meyer jokes.

Kidding aside. As stated above, south FL is full of players. Miami has the background of success where the local kids would wanna stay home if givin the reasons. (which currently are not there)

In short, saying they never will come back is silly. But they have it to do.
