the 49ers situation a year ago?

Harbaugh was disappointed with Alex Smith his game manager QB and wanted someone with more splash and flash. So Kaepernick got the nod and did great towards the end of last season. Now you look at the two situations and Smith is playing in KC with a 3-0 record and Kaepernick is in SF with a 1-2 record, and has looked pedestrian.

I would love you us to get one of these guys in here to start that has a tremendous upside, but do you all think we may be better with a game manager this season while the other QB's grow?

And do you think our situation could be similar to the 49ers?

Umm no. Both of those guys are good, all of our guys stink or are too inexperienced to know whats going on. Its really quite simple.

It might be similar to the one in 2000 Joey Mathews started then they tried redshirt freshman AJ Suggs then true freshman Casey Clausen got his turn.

I see your analogy OP. But none of us know if the Freshman are great players waiting to be unleased or just inexperienced average freshmen? If we have a stud, which a lot of people beleive we do given CBJ is not recruiting a QB in the 14 class, then this analogy could work.

I don't think we have a Kaepernick on our roster. Hope I'm wrong though!

Based on strictly the last two games he's played, if we don't have a Kaepernick on our roster at the moment we are either in perfectly fine or absolutely bottom of the barrel dreadful shape.

Code:
Game Cmp% Yds TD Int Rate
9/22 vs Colts 48.1 150 0 1 49.9
9/15 @Seahawks 46.4 127 0 3 20.1

I wouldn't just call smith a game manager he is also making plays with his legs which shows some athletic ability, smith is a heck of an athlete who played in a spread Offense at Utah.

good analogy but I think Clausen would have been starter from day 1 if he was not injured.

the 49ers had to pick between two good quarterbacks... alex smith had that team on their way to the super bowl as well.

we're looking for one good quarterback.

The biggest difference is the 49ers had two quality QB's and benched one for another. We don't have two good QB's, so in my humble opinion, this is nothing like the 49ers situation.

Way to draw conclusions from a small sample size. All of their playmakers are hurt. No Crabtree, no Vernon Davis. Hard to play well with only one weapon in Boldin in the passing game.

Id say we were more like the Jets from last year. Not a very good QB starting...Fans calling for a change...Back up comes in and sucks too...All we are missing is a butt-fumble

To be fair, I did qualify it as "based on the past two games." :) I'm just saying that he hasn't exactly gotten off to an amazing start and the 49'ers are still pretty deep with talent despite injuries. I'm not exactly a fan of them, but the season is very early and they're still bound to win a few ballgames. My point is more about it being an inexact science when it comes to predicting whether or not benching one guy in favor of an unproven one is a good move. Especially after the "newness" wears off.

UT could do the same thing SF did with a young QB and perform admirably, surprise a few people, and move the football better than they have with Worley/Peterson. Or they could put a young guy in and toss 3-4 interceptions a game, fail to convert 3rd downs, and get blown out regularly.

How is Worley a "game manager" exactly? He throws the ball to the opposition slightly less than Peterman?

Yes, I agree: Worley is absolutely a "game manager" type like Alex Smith--not a great passer or runner but doesn't make a lot of mistakes. And game managers aren't bad. Problem is, game manager QBs need what Alex Smith his last year with the 49ers--a strong running attack and a very stout defense. I think the Niners last year had the best defense in the league--top 2, certainly. And they could run the ball. With those strengths you don't need a great QB, but even so Smith lost his job. And, of course, in our case we DON'T have a especially good defense or running game, and so our QB issues are magnified. Bama has had MANY game manager QBs with no more than average skills (at best) and done very well because they usually have a tough defense and tough running attack. That's the problem for us.

are they (ferguson/dobbs) pocket qb's or mobile qb's?

i keep seeing arguments going each way about whether they are or are , so which is it?

Smith also beat Alabama with a 2 & 3 star laden team.
