Is this a “Make or Break” game?

Since we haven't beaten a top 25 team yet, one would think we are about 26th in the nation.
That's not good for this roster, we should be top 10.

I think this is a very important game, especially being at home. Lose this one and
there needs to be some intense analyzing of schemes, rotation, etc.
Lost to teams currently ranked #2, #4 and #9. Beat a team currently ranked #23. Seems like we should be maybe #17? Oh we are!

If we win, how far does it build our confidence moving forward? Do we pretty much run the table?
If we lose, how bad will this team sink? Or would we still pretty much run the table?
The bonuses for winning today have been well identified. But as for how we become a final four team...

Championship basketball used to be assembling a team that could win 3 different ways, depending on the strengths of their opponent. I think the 3-point game has added a 4th challenge--you have to be able to win different ways, also depending now on your outside shooting on any given night! That means you have to be able to win with or without hot shooting against at least 3 different types of opponents.

All that to say, I think the real task for Tennessee this regular season is seeing how many ways they can win games, with and without their outside shooting. For that reason, the George-Mason victory was more important for this team than movement in the polls would ever reflect.

How we win against Illinois has more impact on the eventual goal than if we win.

Intense analysis of schemes and rotation? Overreact much? I guess if we lost by 20-25.......

Illinois will be a good measure of where Tennessee really is and can the Vols play a full 40 minutes of basketball with no scoring droughts or defensive collapses

Yeah, while I don't think its necessarily a "must win"... I think if they can close this out today,go 2-1 against the B1G and 3 ranked teams in a solid conference, it's going to look really good later in the year.

I don't personally consider today's win nearly as important as any conference game we will play. However, in the bigger scheme of things, the win today will help with seeding for the Big Dance. So from that standpoint it was a big win. Every home court win we add to the streak also helps further the notion that TBA is an elite home court advantage.

This game is a good measuring stick for this time of season. Illinois is capable of playing top 5 defense as are we. I'm looking for balance on offense, continued improvement in rebounding and developing team chemistry.

Boy, you sure nailed it
