Is this a record for night games?

I seriously doubt it. In the old days, the norm was the September home games would almost always be at night for comfort reasons. The non conference portion of the schedule in particular. Exceptions were UCLA in the afternoon time slot a few times and I remember sitting in 100+ degree heat and folks passing out in the stands in the early 90's. Add the prime time October and November games in there, and 3 is probably an average number.

Found an old media guide that has the night games marked on the scheudule. Starting in the early 70's, almost all of the September games at home are at night. When more games were televised starting in the 90's, we had 3 night games in 89 against Colorado St, UCLA and Duke to start the season, 4 in 1990 including the bowl game, 3 in 91, 4 in 94 including the bowl game, 3 in 95, 5 in 96 all in the regular season, 5 in 97 including the SEC ship and bowl game, 4 in 98 including the SEC and NC game, 6 in 1999, 4 in 2001, 5 in 2002, 4 in 2003, 5 in 2004, 3 in 2005, 3 in 2006, 4 in 2007, 4 in 2008 and 6 in 2009.

So the record is 6 which has happened at least twice.
Smokey did in 91 or so. I was at that game. Unbelievably loud and hot.

Vols have come a long way since Heupel’s first year with us worrying if Beth Mowins was calling our games or not. Now at least 2/3rds of our games this year are shown in the abc/espn prime slots. First world problems.

And we got rid of Gary Danielson
No announcer annoys me more than Mowins, not even Danielson. Her voice is irritating as hell.

Night games are one thing but the difference in starting at 7:00 and 7:45 feels massive for some reason.

reminds me of basketball season when I see we have 9:00 PM games on a week night.
Driving 2 hours up and 2 hours back for those 9pm basketball games is brutal. Seems like that’s always the game with 40 foul calls as well.

Unless you’re playing in the 7-8p FOX or ABC slot, “Primetime” really isn’t considered an actual day part when it comes to Saturdays and college football.

A noon game on ESPN is better than a 7pm game on SEC Network, even though the 7pm is usually thought of as primetime.

The Knoxville hotel/motel/holiday inn love the night games. ME: Good for watching on TV, but I like to do up and back from Huntsville and not have to get a room. I've driven back in Hiawassee fog and rolled in my drive at 3:00 am a couple of times in the past. @67 yrs old, makes for a long day.

With the new ESPN/ABC arrangement, if you're at the top of the SEC standings you will be playing mostly night games.

This also applies however when you are the road team so it cuts both ways.

I'll be honest, I don't like it cause I have to fight my spouse every weekend for the remote - every night game is opposite his Trojans. And he's bigger than me.
