Im not sure we can give it away. Are we gonna go from dooley to fedora or jones? Why do we always seem to strikeout on our first 5 candidates? Feels just like the last debacle. Different AD this time so wtf?

To a coach of an equal level of school? Yes. Why would they leave their current gig to move laterally as far as prestige goes but facing a much larger rebuilding project, coupled with being in the toughest conference in the country currently?

The problem is, that is the only kind of coach that seemingly will make a chunk of the posters on this board happy. They gave Gruden a shot and he was about the only option of that caliber that was remotely available. If you want that level you need to wait for one of those guys to abandon his college gig for the NFL, fail miserably and either get fired and/or want to bolt back to college. Or for them to have pains in their arms and leave the game for good to only be lured back a couple years later. Or be the Alma Mater/Old home to said target coach. Unfortunately there was no one like that this year.

The perception is a coach has 3 years to be winning SEC titles. What coach wants to come to a program on the bottom and try to do that in 3 years.

I think it's more than that actually...

No this is not really directed at Hart since I feel it was the same with Hamilton. But there is something going on with the upper crust/administrators/or maybe even the boosters that just totally turns guys off. Because I truly believe we had Gruden at least very interested. And if current trends hold up and Strong and Gundy officially shoot us down, I believe we had their ears as well. In fact from what I have read Strong was packing his bags. However, I think they get a glimpse of something and it freaks them out and they just decide to stay home.

Different ADs, same mindset. Start in the middle, don't make a push for the top guys, don't be willing to spend top dollar.

Look at Arkansas. Are they a better job than UT? Most experts would say no. But they started at the very top. They made offers to Gruden, to Miles, (and, according to rumors, Petersen and Patterson, as well). Their AD let it be known that he wanted the best guy available and was willing to spend as much as it took to get him. And when you do that, you may not get your 1st choice, but eventually, one of those top guys is going to say "Hey, I'd like a big raise" and that's when you get someone like Bielema, who is a fantastic hire.

On the other hand, our AD sat around twiddling his thumbs for a couple of weeks and then went straight after second tier coaches. And yeah, he's getting turned down. That will happen anywhere. Lots of guys just want to use you for a raise. But, by starting in the middle, he hasn't left himself much room to fall.

The reality is that the Tennesse job is the hardest job in the SEC. For alot of reasons.

6 presidents in 11 years.

No leadership from the top and certainly none from the Chancellor or AD's office under Hamilton or now Hart.

Everyone points to the need in stability on coaches, it is on the guys signing their paychecks as well. Coaches want to know who their boss is gonna be.

Well, Colorado just hired a coach from the Big East with almost the exact same record as the coach we are hoping to land. He could actually turn us down as we sit and wait to over pay him by about 1.5 million. Unattractive does not even start to describe it.

No but I think we went after the wrong coaches. Gundy is at his alma mata and was not going to leave and Louisville gave Strong a chance when no one else would.

Sometimes it happens this way, USC went through 7 offers to coaches before offering Kiffin and staff...UF got turned down a lot too before Muschamp took the job...We aren't the only ones who go through this so relax and let Hart do his job...He'll do the right thing.

The job is fine but getting someone that is good, can win, has won and probably employed is not a cake walk. It would be different if a DC or OC was in the mix but Hart is probably right about no-more first timers or experiments. It's got to be a HC.

And face it; the prgram will need some work and maybe a good two years to get back. Everyone we're looking at has a pretty solid program or not as bad as ours.

As I said in another thread...

Why risk your image and take on the stress when you can be a king in a place where you are already comfortable? Beat Clemson and FSU and ya make a huge bowl and gets xtra $$. OR Battle the likes of Bama, LSU, UGA and Florida for a chance at it.

Work smarter, not harder.

It's not an elite program anymore. I'm humbled by it. I hope all fans are ready to accept it and do whatever has to be done to start over.

Why would you think that? This is an historical low, nothing more. Happens everywhere.

This 110k seat stadium, massive media market, dependent local economy and rich tradition isn't going anywhere. Calm down.

Guys the coaches we need are the type that live to battle the Bama's, LSU and Gators.. Our problem is we have allowed our admin to cheap out on the last hire and now we are suffering for it. If we wish to be relevant again we must step up and pay the money that a BIG TIME hire expects. It(The big hire) will eventually pay for itself but we gotta risk it to get the biscuit! :)
