You also have to consider that Auburn played it pretty close to the vest in the 2nd half after building a friggin' 28 pt halftime lead.

I guess if there's anything positive, at least the defense didn't completely lay down and get run over once the game got out of hand.

 Not to disrespect you guys opinion, but I in no way think Tuberville played close to the vest in the 3rd quarter. They came out passing to start the 2nd half. 3 passes and a punt. Then 2 more punts. Campbell was 4-of-8 for only 12 yards and 1 interception in the 2nd half. The Vols were actually putting pressure on him in the backfield. Tuberville remembered all too well what the Vols did in the 4th quarter of the 2003 contest...in 2003, with AU up 28-7 in the 4th quarter, the Vols closed within 28-21 and were throwing into the endzone at the end of the game. Chavis always makes adjustments at half time... however, he should have made them in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half.

 Has anyone else noticed that the Vols lose alot of games in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half and the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. Spurrier knew this to be a key time in any game, usually scoring just before the half and then just after to blow games wide open. Last year's game against Georgia comes to mind as well.

I guess that's why everybody defers to the second half. If you work it right, you get 2 possessions in a row.

Sanders is the worst ever !!!!

Umm... yeah, it's Sanders fault! That's it - what Gator said...

I'd be interested in seeing how many of the votes in this thread were submitted before the UGA game - like most Chavis defenses, this one has, and will continue to, improve as time passes. I think we saw the first signs of their progression last week and I'm hoping to see even more in the next couple - our defense should be able to really control the next few teams we play.

You guys can be the judge, but when if the Vols finish with 4 lopsided losses like 2002, or give up 62 points to an opponent.... then I might agree that the defense is the worst under Chavis. Until then, I'll go with "this defense is young and getting better."

allvol, I'm with you -- looks like we've grown a bit already!

I may have to change my vote after what I saw in the UGA game. Maybe Chavis and the defense saw this poll and set out to prove us wrong. :dunno:

I think that everybody that voted it was the worst defense before the UGA game would vote the opposite today.

They showed me something against them.

Lets wait till the end of the season to decide about the defense. Just like we do everything else.

Ainge ?
DB's
OL?
DL?

We can only make an educated decission when all the facts are in. and as of yet there is alot of football left to play.

somebody heard something cause the D looked much better, still some poor tackling IMO in the backfield (can't remember which one but one of the D-backs tried to knock opponents feet out from under him instead of wrapping him up)Fix it !

I heard someone say they heard Chavis talk about all the big plays that were being given up. Chavis said that he had a blitz play called on everyone of the 20+ yard pass plays that the defense had given up. So, against Georgia, the defense plays straight up vanilla zone defense without all the blitzs. The coverage was much better with more dropping back into coverage and the linemen were able to put pressure on Greene without the blitz plays.
