Is this year Pearl's worst coaching job?

Look at our record now and the losses we have. We have already lost 5 home games this season to 5 teams we should have never lost to at home. Pearl had a previous history of winning the games he was supposed to win and picking up a surprise win here and there. We have two surprise wins, but the home loses override those wins. Is this his worst coaching job since being at UT? Your thoughts VN.

This is his worst job motivating the players. It's hard to come up with the right X's and O's when the players aren't hustling like they should.

Honestly, nothing matters until tourney time. We get in, then it is a clean slate imo.

Or when he's not on the sideline for 8 conference games, JMO, IYAM, IMHO, TIFWIW...

Motivation has been bad-the offense has been bad, and the defense was lazy before Jones took over.

The passing along the perimiter has been AWESOME, however.

I want to add to my previous post, that I know he's still drawing up game plans and whatnot, but there's still the x-factor of in-game adjustments and improvisation that have to happen sometimes. Hard to tell if it's him or just the players.

He's responsible for the players and the motivation, preparation, and production on the floor. He's also responsible for the players that find themselves on the floor.

I know we lost some home games that we had no business losing, however, this team is still alive and kicking. With all the buzzards circling the program, it's amazing that the team still has a heartbeat! I think he's doing ok considering everything the program has been through this year. (although, these "wounds" are self inflicted")

His offseason lies to the NCAA were his worst coaching job. Everything since that time has been a product of that.

people said the same thing last year. Ask again in march, not early Feb.

he hasnt done a bad coaching job yet. Some were better than others but they were all up to tennessee standards. The quicker people realize that bruce pearl is an elite level coach who has won everywhere he has been every year he has been there the better off they will be. The guy who you want to replace him will not do close to as good a job. This team was picked to finish 5th in the east.

According to most posters on here, last year was his worst coaching job ever, right up until we made the Elite 8.

Last year was a very good job. Transition to a defensive approach with rebounding gave us a chance. Getting a very weak route to the final eight was just fortune. Pissing away a final four to a broken MSU team was awful.

Can anyone explain why Woolridge isn't playing at all?

Not sure if this is a serious question or not. If you have seen him play you know he has no business being on the floor with other SEC-caliber basketball players. He would not even be All-conference playing in the OVC.

(1) Pearl didn't expect this team to be one of his best (2) No real leadership (3) Not as much talent as we had last year (4) Most of the time, they don't play motivated

***** Remember guys, last year we played so-so, until our senior leader was kicked off of the team. Once he was gone, we played lights out. We had a better team chemistry, once he was gone.

I agree, but we didn't lose to teams like Oakland, Charlotte, College of Charleston, etc. and we didn't lose home conference games to Alabama and Florida. We did lose to Vandy at home last year.

I'm not into the whole 'Blame Pearl' for the team's performance issues. Let's face it, this team is not as good as his teams in the past. There is little to no leadership on this squad, and no true 'go to' player in the post (a la Wayne Chism).

At least last year you could depend on Chism down low and Prince was tall enough to drive the lane effectively; Goins tries it and gets his shot rejected 85% of the time - must be the most blocked PG in CBB this year.

Don't get me wrong, Brian Williams has stepped it up this year, but not as consistent as Chism. Tobias is a good player but needs more time in the system, plus playing the point forward position puts him at a disadvantage to other pure post players.

Hopson has picked it up this year and has been a more consistent scorer, but still has some work to do on basic ball handling skills as he seems to dribble off his own foot or leg way too much. I guess he's the 'leader' of this team 'cause as he plays, so does the team. No one to really step up when he has an off night...

All I know is Bruce better find him another post player or two because if he doesn't, hard times ahead for this program...

def his worst coaching job, imo.

keep in mind that his worst coaching job (this year's team) is still going to make the tournament. Which of his predecessors can say that?

No question, if the team makes the tournament this year, it will be the first time in history that the program has gone to 6 consecutive tournaments. Of course, you have to factor in the continuing increase of teams that now participate in the tournament. No argument that Pearl has done a good job with the program. The question is---has he reached the peak of success and we are now seeing a downward spiral with the program under Pearl? No doubt, his self-inflicted problems are going to have a negative impact on the program, regardless of the outcome. I don't see any way that next year's team won't be less talented than this year and the cycle could continue.
