Is ZZZ an all-America, this year ?

Sears and Smith sadly will get it over him. But ZZ should get it
Sadly I think y you’re right. Sears will probably get the nod based on hype. But he wouldn’t get it from me. Sears is a fraction of the defender ZZ is. Way fewer assists. He’s basically a volume shooter that plays PG. And ZZ has the leadership quality that’s unmatched

Zakai is an example of the best kind of college athlete, imo: someone who may not sniff a career in the pros but can play with and against a bunch of future pros in college and still emerge as an incredibly important, game-changing player. Lofton was another example, sweeping that Florida team full of NBA players the year they won the chip. Kirby as well: no shot at MLB and yet got many critical outs on the biggest stage in college baseball. There’s a reason players like that are fan favorites.

Let them have it. That chatter will make for an added chip on ZZ's shoulder come dance time. Never a bad thing, IMO.

One of the commentary shows, I think SEC Now, had a feature on Ziegler that showed him as the third most valuable player in college basketball.

Just Googled it. It was based on ratings by a basketball analyst Evan Miyakawa. There's an article on On3 but I can't get to that site because of my ad blocker.

Sears stats have fallen off this season. His shooting percentage is down 9 percent and his scoring is down almost 4ppg. He doesn't play defense as a rule, either.

ZZ only averages 5 less points. But averages 3 more assists. So they basically contribute the same amount to total scoring. (ZZ is top 5 nationally in assists, Sears isn't top 40 in anything)

ZZ is also the best defensive PG in the country. A true two way player.

So they basically pick 5 1st team AAs each year...

Here are probably the top PGs that are in the running

Mark Sears (Alabama): 18.9 ppg, 4.8 apg, 3.0 rpg, 0.9 spg
Walter Clayton Jr (Florida): 17.1 ppg, 4.0 apg, 3.7 rpg, 1.3 spg
Braden Smith (Purdue): 15.8 ppg, 8.7 apg, 4.5 rpg, 2.3 spg
Augustas Marciulionis (Saint Mary's): 14.2 ppg, 6.2 apg, 2.8 rpg, 1.4 spg
Zakai Zeigler (Tennessee): 13.5 ppg, 7.5 apg, 3.2 rpg, 2.0 spg
Ryan Nembhard (Gonzaga): 11.0 ppg, 9.7 apg, 3.0 rpg, 1.6 spg
Sean Newman (Louisiana Tech): 10.1 ppg, 8.1 apg, 2.3 rpg, 0.9 spg

I'd say Braden Smith is the favorite though...but ZZ has a strong case for 2nd team all day.

The "obvious" names that will be AA I'd guess.

Johni Broome
Cooper Flagg

A few names I wouldn't be surprised to hear

PJ Haggerty (Memphis)
Curtis Jones (Iowa State)
RJ Luis (St. John's)
Chaz Lanier (Tennessee)
Ryan Kalkbrenner (Creighton)
