Soldiers being called up also. I can't wait to hear Obama's response to these events.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Israeli warplanes pressing one of Israel's deadliest assaults ever on Palestinian militants dropped bombs and missiles on a top security installation, smuggling tunnels and dozens of other targets across Hamas-ruled Gaza on Sunday.

Israel called up 6,500 reserve soldiers and moved tanks, infantry and armored units to the Gaza border for a possible ground invasion. Some 280 Palestinians died in the first 24 hours of the campaign against Gaza rocket squads.

wow... sounds devastating to Hamas

The initial targets of the attack were Hamas police compounds. A Reuters report said that the casualties included “40 at a police headquarters where Hamas was hosting a graduation ceremony for new recruits. Among those killed was police chief Tawfiq Jabber.”

The coverage these strikes get is curious to me. Very little coverage of the rocket attacks and then when Israel reacts all sources carry it.

The Palestinians have been used by Arab countries for years, I would almost feel sorry for them had they not allowed themselves to be used in this way. The money made available to them would be more than enough to educate their people well and build a solid infrastructure any nation would be proud of. Too bad fundamentalists want them to remain poor and uneducated so they can be used as canon fodder.

It's pretty simple, small scale bombings and rocket strikes simply aren't news. Major military strikes are much sexier.

Hamas has gotten used to the length of chain Israel has been held by. They could soon see what she is capable of when that chain is no longer there.
