I worked from home today and all these “experts” are hyping Tennessee BUT when it comes to us being ranked #1 many are saying…well we need to see what they do against Georgia…I mean 4 of our 6 wins are vs Top 25 opponents, we have the best resume in the country with a Top 10 strength of schedule. Last week it was, well let’s see what they do against Bama, before that it was let’s see what they do on the road against LSU….I know, we win we move up but it’s annoying

I’m not trying to be rude but what’s the benefit of being #1 vs #3? I’ve never really cared what rank we were. Our strength of schedule is a blessing in disguise because if we win out, we will be CFP contenders immediately anyway. Then we can actually prove our “#1” ranking. I’ve really just never understood the hype about this stuff.

They keep moving the goal posts, so will we!

Keep winning each game and all this takes care of itself.
That's true but also not a standard that Bama has to meet... or UGA... or Michigan... or tOSU... or even a team like Texas. I really, really don't understand the respect Texas is getting. Some of the computer models used for the BCS have them ranked high. At least one has them above UT. ESPN's FPI has them ranked above UT.

I don't know the source. I don't always buy the "they hate us" stuff. But in this particular case there are some strong biases against UT.

I agree with your post. Plus the Playoff committee is the only one that matters, though they wait until first week in November.

I don’t think they will do it, but the committee could rank us @ number two after TN beats KY. Being one or two gives a team an opportunity to climb back into contention if a couple of teams stumble. I’m not sure how far we would drop with a loss to UGA, hopefully just a few spots. We would need UGA to beat Bama and no undefeated PAC 12 teams.

It is so much fun that we are having this conversation as it’s great to be relevant nationally once again. It’s been too long!!!

Go Vols!

Meh, worry about the games.
None of this other garbage matters right now.
Whoever wins that game in Athens in a few weeks will be #1 in the next poll. That's all that matters.

Worry about what you can control and everything else will take care of itself.

I’m with ya man , I’m usually not concerned with rankings or atleast in the past when we were good I wasn’t but it’d be nice to see 1 by our name and I think we are deserving and the idea of win and it’ll take care of itself I think is kinda ridiculous because we have and it hasn’t haha they do move the goal posts

We have a completely outlier system and scheme. It truly defies the models. For instance if you statistically look at LSU and Bama there is little explanation for us winning both. We were 30% odds for both according to normal metrics.

That's how being at the top goes. Get used to it. There's always more to prove.

Everyone one with an ounce of common sense knows UT is the #1 college football team in America right now.

The polls can stick their politically biased opinions where the sun don't shine.

I would rather they still doubt us. Everyone picking us to beat bama was the only thing that kinda worried me. They tried everything they could to jinx us in that game. It just didn’t work this time.

Tennessee definitely has the best resume.

#1 SOR

12th (depending on the site) SOS and #2nd SOS among ranked teams.

Best win in college football.

4 wins vs ranked teams.

2 wins vs ranked on the road.

AP #3 & coaches #4

Tennessee started unranked, OSU started 2nd and Georgia started 3rd.

All Tennessee has to do is win, they are in a great spot.

Dude Chill, why worry about number 1 today. If we keep winning it will take care of itself. Are we as good as anybody out there probably. But hey Georgia and Ohio St have been there awhile and haven’t lost. We play Georgia soon enough. Would much rather be the underdog and the hunter until then. They main thing is making the playoffs and being number 1 in the end. Ranking doesn’t mean nothing till it’s over. Enjoy the rise, enjoy being 6-0, enjoy having beat Florida,LSU and Bama already. Just WIN baby, one game at a time. GBO!!!!!

Exactly fretting overbite being number 1 today is silly. Enjoy being the hunter!!!! GBO!

Just keep winning baby!!!!!! I would rather us keep getting overlooked and adding to the win total.

I’m with you; however I don’t think anyone is going to overlook the Vols now.

Fans have kept saying “that D is trash”…..”no way they can score like that on us”………until they actually play Tennessee. Then they know!

Playoff committee rankings are the only thing that matters in the end. They'll take into account the ranked wins and probably move us up imo. If we keep winning obviously

Whether it should be true or not, it's true that recent history favors "blue blood" successful programs. HISTORICALLY, TN is a blue blood but we've been spotty in the last ten years or so.

Coaches, the press, etc know about the turmoil in Knoxville so getting them to believe in TN again requires lots of brute strength wins. You have to admit the turnaround has been more than we could've expected. Even many UT fans were buckled in for a 4 year rebuild by Heupel.

Sure, each year should be judged individually but if you're looking for the polls not to favor Bama, GA, Ohio State, etc, that's just not how people think. Those programs that have shown success in last decade get favored because they've been there year after year after year at the END of the season.

When we get a reputation (and we will) for beating those elite teams regularly (not once every 15 years) then we'll get that bump in the rankings too.

Ohio State, Georgia idk about but Texas we would beat the absolute hell out of them. That game wouldn’t be close and it wouldn’t be pretty for them.
