Who cares? Pearl is done and the kid plays for Ohio. Not Ohio State but a team you can forget about after today.

Strange situation. Why would Cooper and his family lie about something like that?

As I posted in the other thread its 15 minutes of fame. The kid said in his quote that neither he or his family were contacted. It could have been the reporter trying to make a story out of nothing.

This is a great example of the slime in the media. Especially CBS. You have to be suspicious of anything they print or say. Pearl is an easy target for what he did so these lower than pond scum peddlers want to draw attention to themselves.

CBS didn't make this story up, it was an interview. The quotes from cooper and his parents were made up by the reporter, they were actual quotes from cooper and his parents.

So either they were lying to the reporter doing the interview or cooper is lying now. But to say CBS just made this story up basically isn't true or fair, the reporter got flashy news from a flashy name in CBB right now, they'd have been dumb not to report it.

The only person who should be getting criticized is DJ Cooper and his parents. His recent statement exonerating pearl provided no details or reasoning for his or his parents quotes, just a simple no contact was made statement. He either needed to have gave reasoning an details for the false statements, or provided reasoning and details or a simple no comment on his initial allegations against pearl and drew.

Why can't the family be telling the truth in both instances?

He stated Tenn and Baylor wanted him to transfer to their schools.

He stated no DIRECT contact was made.

His use of the words "no direct contact" are very telling to me.

True.

My point was simply either it did or didn't happen, but he was either lying initially in his quotes(which I just don't see a point in) or he covering it up now in his recent statements.

As you said by saying no direct contact leaves that door open. Also, my issue with his statement is if those quotes were false wouldn't he address them? He doesn't provide any details or reasoning as to why he and his parents said what they did, he simply says no schools directly contacted me blah blah blah....weird story.

Agree. Drew has always been known how to do this without getting caught. He directly doesn't do it, but he has a lot of people indirectly talking to kids like this. If it was Bruce Pearl and a respected coach, I wouldn't believe it. However, I don't think it's a coincidence that something shady was mentioned with Scott Drew. He's scum.

"Cooper's father, Donnell, told CBSsports.com that Pearl 'tried the hardest' to get his son to transfer."

In today's litigious society, most folks would sue over that sort of slander, especially in light of the media-fueled meat grinder Coach Pearl was put through. It does my heart good to see that even former Vol coaches are too classy to let themselves get dragged down to the level of scum like Donnell Cooper.

"I'm pleased the record was set straight, and for my friends, family and the people who believe in me, I'm grateful my exoneration validated their faith in me,'' Pearl said. "For those who took this as another opportunity to be critical of me, I hope they'll learn you can't always believe everything you hear.''

Bruce Pearl: UT delayed info on photo » GoVolsXtraWhy would he wait two years to divulge it? I said it looked fishy, and it did. Pearl was thrown under the bus by the university.

Actually, Pearl threw UT under the bus by being a dumbass. He turned what would have been a meaningless secondary violation into a fireable offense because honesty apparently isn't his best policy.

Let this be an example to those who were prepared to rush to judgment and believe the worst about Pearl because they simply want to believe the worst about the man. There is no doubt that Bruce made such things possible because of his own prior misrepresentations, but sometimes the most obvious suspects are not blameworthy.

Looks as if this kid and his parents were doing a little cashing in on his new-found notoriety in the NCAA tournament. What a way to get yourself noticed!

It's not telling to me. I believe this kid and his parents are the liars here, perhaps the father even moreso. What a way to cash in on your new-found notoriety from being in the sweet 16!

Using Tenn and Baylor in a lie to gain attention doesn't add up. Looking to cash in for some attention like you speak of would have included a higher profile school than Tenn IMO.

Didn't you know? Name dropping a former basketball coach disgracing himself as a liar totally makes you legit and cashes in on your new-found "fame".

Or the kid wasn't really that heavily recruited out of high school.....a lot of schools have told him how good of a player he is after games and such.....the kid and his parents were excited after the game talking trash and embellished the story a little bit.

The writer took two or three quotes out of about fifty that would make his story get as many hits as possible....the kid not realizing the uproar that would happen recanted his story.
