I guess this could have been posted on the recruiting board, but this really covers the whole picture.

Dooley was very, very, very, very, bad. He was horrible in all aspects of his job. I guess it was a different time when his dad was the Head Coach, as there were not a lot of "extras" for the job.

Looking back, he didn't even like recruiting, speaking to Alumni groups, and talking to former players. It baffles me on why he thought those things were not important.

Also, I don't even think anybody really liked him at all. I do believe that his dry sense of humor rubbed people the wrong way, and maybe there was a communication issue at times.

But whatever the case, we appear to be in good hands right now. Our "fall back" guy could very well be a grand slam. (just going to take a little longer to round the bases). Today's news proves the point even more.

Tennessee was what did it. Dooley had not built his reputation by then.

He held together a decent class coming in after Kiffins departure in mid January. I think Hinshaw did most of his recruiting. Later Wilcox and Surmon. Never saw Dooleys name tagged to a recruit.

If I talked about my x-girlfiends the way some of you keep talking about Dooley, my girlfriend would dis-own me, stop with dooley, let it go, he's Gone. This is new Vol football. Fresh.

OP does have a point though. Think about the scenario where Dooley would have been UT's coach for another year, we could have lost Bates, Hurd, TK Jr, Malone, etc to other schools because of his terrible recruiting. We should be very grateful.

With the exception of Mo, we had a pretty good year with our guys on the team. I also know that MO had his reasons for his decisions. I can't fault him for that. He did what he needed to do. BUt as for the rest of the team, I think the staff and the older players set the groundwork for being players of character. I don't recall a single incident about one of our guys in the police blotter. That was refreshing to come on this site or in the News Sentinel and not have to read that crap every week like we had in the past. We have a great group of young guys coming in next year. Our program may have turned the corner against Kentucky because they had nothing but pride to play for up there and they took it to them. Good job the all in the program and I really look forward to next year. Go Vols !:)

It's time to let it go. He's gone just be thankful he didn't somehow manage to back his way into a 6-6 season last year or he would probably still be here.

He was not the cancer, he just wasn't the cure.

It's funny how people can't see that he was more or less a stop gap in a sense. He stopped the hemorrhaging. CBJ needs to continue fixing the football program. Dooley was brought on to help fix the whole TN Athletic Dept in a sense. Rebuild the program foundation which he did. Was he perfect no, but when ur spread so much things can't get as much focus as they should.

I get accused of being a dooley lover but it's more that I see his tenure differently then others. Why he was brought in and all the issues surrounding it. Heck as an example CBJ gets to sell and tour recruits from day 1 through one of the best facilities in the country. The one that Dooley had to finish building.

The type of person we needed at that time wasn't your everyday head coach. Majority of them wouldn't have been able to handle what was needed to be handle that wasn't football related.

Of course I will get bashed for all this by the usual "Kool kidz" but I've been bashed for yrs and my opinion hasn't changed through all of it. Don't think yall will all of a sudden be able to now when yall respond. I'm up for a good discussion about it though but have learned this place is horrible for that.

GBO!!

I can't believe Kiffin ran off Boyd and Petty...

Really everyone. Focus on the future and don't repeat the mistakes of the past.

Love me some Butch!

you folks amaze me. I think the vol fans are the cancer if you want me to be honest. WOW.. Are you guys going to blame Johnny Majors next? Come on man. We're a bad 5-7 near the bottom of the conference. Face it, too much bad to hang on 1 guy. Too Much good to hang on CBJ either. yet..

LET. IT. GO.
