It's funny how people can't see that he was more or less a stop gap in a sense. He stopped the hemorrhaging. CBJ needs to continue fixing the football program. Dooley was brought on to help fix the whole TN Athletic Dept in a sense. Rebuild the program foundation which he did. Was he perfect no, but when ur spread so much things can't get as much focus as they should.

I get accused of being a dooley lover but it's more that I see his tenure differently then others. Why he was brought in and all the issues surrounding it. Heck as an example CBJ gets to sell and tour recruits from day 1 through one of the best facilities in the country. The one that Dooley had to finish building.

The type of person we needed at that time wasn't your everyday head coach. Majority of them wouldn't have been able to handle what was needed to be handle that wasn't football related.

Of course I will get bashed for all this by the usual "Kool kidz" but I've been bashed for yrs and my opinion hasn't changed through all of it. Don't think yall will all of a sudden be able to now when yall respond. I'm up for a good discussion about it though but have learned this place is horrible for that.

If Dooley was hired to help organize the UTAD, it's no wonder that they're full of spineless cowards and kicked the only one worth a damn when the top job came open.

How about we make a rule we shall never speak the last 2 head coaches name again? DEAL?

It's just my opinion that Kiffin and his staff did more damage in less than one year than Dooley did in three. Dooley turned out to be a bad coach but he's not the biggest reason were in the shape were in. The best thing Dooley did was stay clean and by doing so, Butch Jones doesn't have anything holding him back.

Do you EVER hear Bama fans talking about DuBose, Franchione, or Shula? Let sleeping dogs lie, and look toward our very bright future!

Maybe because they have had Saban for 5 years(?) now, and have been winning on the field and off ever since. In other words, they have allot more to talk about,:hi:

Exactly. When we get back to winning all of this will be bad memory. Until then everybody will continue to discuss who is responsible for the current state of the program.

I guess this could have been posted on the recruiting board, but this really covers the whole picture.

Dooley was very, very, very, very, bad. He was horrible in all aspects of his job. I guess it was a different time when his dad was the Head Coach, as there were not a lot of "extras" for the job.

Looking back, he didn't even like recruiting, speaking to Alumni groups, and talking to former players. It baffles me on why he thought those things were not important.

Also, I don't even think anybody really liked him at all. I do believe that his dry sense of humor rubbed people the wrong way, and maybe there was a communication issue at times.

But whatever the case, we appear to be in good hands right now. Our "fall back" guy could very well be a grand slam. (just going to take a little longer to round the bases). Today's news proves the point even more.
Sounds like you have it figured out. Dooley was the worst excuse for a coach that ever posed as one. He is Kiffin to the umpteenth power. His cancerous stay here has set this program back ten years. There will be some idiots try to come in here and blow smoke up your azz about how he done a great job by "recruiting" well, but they are full of sh--. Fact is, he is probably the worst head coach hire in the history of college football.

Are you saying Dooley was brought in to suck to make Butch's job easier?

His father really wasn't all that good of a coach...He had a few good teams during his time there but nothing overly special outside of Herschel Walkers time there....Just goes to show you what a difference one player can make...On Walkers debut game We were beating them 15-0 and in clear charge of the game...Then he came in and the rest is history.

Saying he landed Hunter and Rogers is like me jumping in a car that's 3 laps ahead at Indy with one to go and putting across the line and saying that I've won the Indy 500.

It's false.

It is what it is. However I give Hinshaw most all the credit.
