"It is an Honor to be the Foods Stamp President..." Jesse Jackson

I don't like Jackson's constant refrain of excuse-making. Sorry to disappoint those of you who simply assumed I would defend this.

(OTOH I also think the Tea Party's rhetorical representation of this is ... unfortunate.)

"Its a TRAP!"

only their tactics, never their goals or ideas

Depends on the goal or idea.

Name one and I will tell you whether I support it, support it with modifications, or oppose it. And don't say crap like "affirmative action." Too vague a phrase. Give me a specific program or plan and I'll respond. You can just quote them if you'd like.

You might be surprised.

From JJ's Wiki:

  • reprioritizing the War on Drugs to focus less on mandatory minimum sentences for drug users (which he views as racially biased) and more on harsher punishments for money-laundering bankers and others who are part of the "supply" end of "supply and demand"
  • cutting the budget of the Department of Defense by as much as fifteen percent over the course of his administration
  • supporting family farmers by reviving many of Roosevelt's New Deal–era farm programs
  • increasing federal funding for lower-level public education and providing free community college to all
  • supporting the formation of a Palestinian state.

Interestingly he flip-flopped on abortion. He used to be pro-life.

I never heard of this:

On June 23, 2007 Jackson was arrested in connection with a protest at a gun store in Riverdale, a poor suburb of Chicago, Illinois. Jackson and others were protesting due to allegations that the gun store had been selling firearms to local gang members and was contributing to the decay of the community. According to police reports, Jackson refused to stop blocking the front entrance of the store and let customers pass. He was charged with one count of criminal trespass to property.

I wonder when he'll start protesting Fast & Furious.

I support this with modification that I would still provide significantly harsher sentences for sale of cocaine rather than mere possession.

Generally speaking, however, I do think that those importing power cocaine tend to get lighter sentences than they should, considering where the bulk of it ends up.

I wouldn't set a target for amount, although I think generally reprioritizing defense spending is a common theme, heard from both Demos and Republicans.

But, no, I oppose some sort of blanket percentage.

Not familiar so no opinion.

Short on specifics, but I do generally favor increased spending on public education. I'd tie that to better oversight of districts that have a bad pattern of failing.

  • supporting the formation of a Palestinian state.
I think a two state solution is inevitable. Devil is in the details, of course.

Abortion issue I don't see as part of the discussion that folks were interested in on this topic.

Oh yeah, that was just an aside.

I was interested in your take on the war on drugs. I think you and JJ have it backwards, if you are interested in improving the plight of minorities. He wants to stop targeting users, and go after sellers (and the people that help them), but the truth is the war on drugs already largely targets suppliers. The large majority of users are white, but the war on drugs targets minority dealers. The powers that be don't want to target users because then Ted Kennedy's kids would have to go to jail, and nobody wants that.

1) Legalize marijuana.

2) Take resources currently spent on marijuana and go after importation of cocaine.

Easy game.

I love the first part, but there's no way they are fighting off cocaine, no matter how much they pour into it.

JJ is a charlatan and extortion artist who has done far more to harm this country, including those of his own race, than any contribution he may have made.
