It just got a little more difficult to be Tim Tebow

He also does a lot to draw attention to himself.

Matthew 6:5-6:

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I don't get the hate on him. He's an outstanding person, and I don't care what religion he decides to follow. He does wonderful things as a humanitarian, and regardless of personal beliefs, we should all aspire to be more like Jesus: selfless. I don't for one second question whether or not he's genuine. I don't like him as a player per se, but I'm a huge fan of him as a more important thing: a person.

Tebow is an empty vessel onto which everyone can project whatever they want. He's basically a human Rorschach test. I know a Christian couple where the man thinks Tebow's basically the perfect example of modern Christianity, and the wife thinks his showy, look-at-me-pray ostentation is disgusting. When you listen to two Christians argue for 10 minutes about whether Tebow is a great Christian or a terrible Christian, you realize that at some point Tim Tebow The Actual Person became sort of beside the point compared to Tebow The Cultural Symbol. He's probably the most interesting sports/cultural figure to come along since Muhammad Ali.

I don't like him because of the wife's idea. I think it's a lot for show, he's basically a tool for Christianity, and I think he hurts Christianity than helps...because he is basically what a lot of non-Christians think regular Christians are. Overzealous, self righteous jackasses.

Bold #2: Wait, what?

From what we see? Do you not see ANYTHING he does for people? Wow. That is maybe the most ignorant thing I've ever read.

The Tim Tebow Foundation was started by Florida Gator Tim Tebow.
Google "Tim Tebow brings kids to games" to read about several different stories of kids who have had their lives touched by him.
bizjournals mobile: Denver: Tim Tebow building hospital in Philippines

Or you can continue to knock on the guy for doing more for people than probably me and you combined. Seriously...

Oh, and why the hell would he fake all of this? Judging by your attitude, he must have done something horrendous to you personally.

I'm a Christian, and while he can be quite outright with his beliefs, he does some wonderful things for people.

All athletes do stuff for charity. Mutumbo not only built a hospital, he built like 15 schools in Africa too.

The whole UT football team visits sick kids all the time.

And every athlete has a foundation.

I don't know if he is or not. To say he is genuine, in today's age, is moronic, especially with athletes, because we don't know.

And non-Christians do wonderful things for people. What's your point?

Firstly, I can tell you just want to belittle everything he does. I guess I'll accept that.

Oh, and I never once mentioned anything about anyone else not doing anything good for others, nor did I turn this into a "Christian vs. Non-Christian" charity competition. That was a card that YOU chose to play. Additionally, you put in another post that as a Christian yourself, he offends you. Can I not expand upon that? Or does it mean less when I say it?

And lastly, using your logic, I should question the motives of every good deed by any athlete in today's society. That's absurd.

To suggest that he may not be could also be moronic, like you said, we don't know.

No. I appreciate the charities does, and using his name to help others. I always like it when athletes when they do that, whether it's genuine or not, because it still accomplishs somethings.

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying.

Well, in terms of genuinity (sp? word?), you probably should.

Haha I had a question about genuinity as a word, too...

And I guess I see no need for the debate. My apologies.

Not sure I believe he is a virgin. I thought there were a revolving door of women at his dorm in Florida.

A website is offering a million dollars to the woman who can have sex with him and prove it.

I have some hard feelings towards old Tim due to his stay in Gainesville. And I also feel like he takes himself too seriously which can be annoying. But I greatly respect the stand he has taken for the Lord.

It galls me that our culture has become one that disapproves of Tim's decision to abstain from premarital sex rather than respecting him for valuing something above it (a rare trait for a man, especially in the 21st century). Since when did our country become one that scoffed at a man that is trying follow Christ and enjoys the idea of his sin. It's one thing to lack self-control, but finding satisfaction in tempting someone else to lose theirs is in a completely different league.

This is nothing new.

What the United States Culture and the World thinks is right, and what Christians think is right is different.
