It looks like the 2014 NIT Tournament is an SEC party

Not that it really means anything, but it's kind of interesting:

None of the schools whose football teams made it to bowl games made it to the NCAA tourney. None of the schools whose basketball teams made the NCAA tourney made it to bowl games.

Arkansas didn't make it to either.

Also interesting is that Illinois and Indiana have 23 Division 1-A basketball schools between them and neither state has a team in the field of 68.

I wonder how much revenue the SEC loses by only sending 3 teams to the NCAA versus, say five. The past two years, the SEC has been below par in sending basketball teams to the NCAA. Pretty sad for a conference with the financial resources that the SEC schools have.

I think if this were like seasons in the past Georgia and LSU-Arkansas would have been invited to the Big Dance.

Can't believe they didn't invite Ole Miss just to get ratings off of Henderson

I guess technically it was right to take the other 4 since they all technically finished better in the SEC, but I'm guessing there must be some cap of bigger conference teams they will take.

I know they changed it so that a regular season conference winner has to be invited if they get left out of the NCAAT because they didn't win their tournament.

Did Ole Miss not get invited (or turned down) an invitation to the other 2 tournaments? A&M is playing in the CBI. Surely it has to be they turned it down rather than not get an invite.

I think if I were Texas A&M I would have turned down the CBI. GT is playing in that,i believe, with a losing record.

MTSU got shut out of the other 3 tournaments too, and they were 24-9.

Hate it for them.

It looks like the move to C-USA barely helped their cause. RPI of their opponents is still terrible, although I guess slightly better than it was in the Sun Belt.

I'd forgotten about Henderson, he's one heck of a Gym Rat. Hate his shot, I don't expect it will translate well to the NBA, the release is too low. But a guy who scraps and competes like that will probably find a spot.

He sort of reminds me of Danny Ainge but with a much worse attitude.

I can see that, Danny is from Eugene OR. He was part of perhaps the best high school team in Oregon history. Tough as nails competitor, he'd do anything to win.

Oregon went to the NIT Semifinals in 1975 losing 58-57 to Princeton(who won the NIT Tournament). Ron Lee got MVP of the NIT Tournament.

I remember very well I was an undergrad at Oregon during the Ronnie Lee/ Kamikazi Kids era. Actually went to a "roast" for Ronnie's dad.

Yea in those days only one team from each conference could go to the NCAAs. UCLA with Wooden seemed to have a pretty good lock on the PAC-8. Also in those days the NIT was a very very tough tourney.

Teams overseas will take him.

Don't get me wrong, the guy will be playing pro ball somewhere. Seriously, if you were in a "pick up" game some place, you'd prefer to have him on YOUR team rather than play against him. He COMPETES hard whether you like him or not.
