It not just Hooker and the team

I think it isn't just game planning, I think the player development is really good with this staff.

Take the offensive line which has been dreadful under Pruitt with these same players. They were a little rough last year but man do they look good right now. That is coaching.

Hooker was mediocre at best at V Tech and look what Heupel did with him. That’s why I’m not worried about our QB situation moving forward
Maybe I'm just looking for things to worry about, but I think Hooker and the scheme are both integral to our success. I can't help but think about the staff's original choice of Joe Milton and when the offense sputtered with Milton in there, they were forced to change to Hooker midway through the Pitt game last season. The man driving the offense is important, too.

I think Hendon is a special dude, but more for his smarts and mentality than anything. Good coaches develop but you can’t make a horse drink. Both Heupel and Hooker deserve a ton of credit.

Milton overthrew 3 walk in touchdowns last year against Pitt. The scheme is quite effective, but you need an accurate QB to run it

Cannot imagine a rising high school star not wanting to play for Tennessee!

Its both....that is true. The biggest difference I see this year is he is reading the coverage better and knows where to go with the ball. Basically, he makes the correct read and is throwing the receivers open. Hooker worked all offseason to get better in the offense and it really is paying off. It also helps that the OL is much better. Last year we were near the bottom of the league in sacks allowed....I would guess we are near the top now.

You are correct. Tied for 4th by my count

I don't think that's average. It is above average. Those (prorated) TD/INT numbers would put him 5th in the SEC today.

Think about it like this, can you imagine having a QB throwing 22/7 vs whatever it was that JG ended up with(probably average of like 15/13) between like 2017 and 2020.

Point Taken.
JG had intangibles that were mostly negative. He could not read most defenses fast enough. He played confused to my eye.

I agree. Also look at Hyatt last year vs this year. He has had good coaching and has worked his tail off. Even Milton looks like a much better player.

Prediction time. If McCoy stays for next year, he might have the best single season for a Tennessee receiver, ever.

Hey, I'll be the first to tell ya. I wasn't looking forward to Hooker after the O&W game last year either.

I screamed at Milton a million times last year and just knew we were doomed when he went down against Pitt and Hooker came in. I don't think anyone knew what would transpire from ther moment to now.

It is Josh Heupel’s game planning, his offensive genius!

It’s hooker and the wr room, heupel, and you could also argue that some of our rivals are down a bit. LSU and UF are both in their first seasons as head coach and Bama hasn’t quite looked like Bama thus far.

Watch the Alabama game. Young played amazing. One of the greatest games I’ve seen a qb play. But he was playing harassed, pressured, pushed. Hooker on the other hand was throwing passes to his buddies in the back yard compared to BY. THATS coaching.

Heupel took an average QB and turned him into a potential Heisman winner and top 5 QB in college football. Funny how there aren’t any excuses on the offensive side of the ball about lack of talent. No we don’t hear that. Why? Because the earmark of a good coach is the ability to take what you have a and develop it.

Heupel should either be the front runner for coach of the year or top 3.
