It not just Hooker and the team

I think it isn't just game planning, I think the player development is really good with this staff.

Take the offensive line which has been dreadful under Pruitt with these same players. They were a little rough last year but man do they look good right now. That is coaching.
That’s what happens when you replace Will Friend with Glen Elarbee. I’ve been most impressed with this position group’s improvement.

Point Taken.
JG had intangibles that were mostly negative. He could not read most defenses fast enough. He played confused to my eye.

Honestly brother, you can look at it either way and it's a fascinating question:

Put Hooker with Pruitt last year, honestly I think he turns in another 22/7 roughly which is good enough to buy Pruitt another year if we got to a bowl. We probably get about the same this season. Good enough for a 7-5 season but not much else, would've kept Pruitt's job though. Point being, Hooker may have been juuuusssssttttt good enough under Pruitt to save his job.

The interesting question would have been putting JG with Heupel. I'm not just referencing getting coached up either. Heupel's system simplifies things for the QB. I seriously believe JG would have been much much better in this system than he was. Don't get me wrong, I still think he sucks-just saying if he was limited to one or two reads he may have seen a different JG. The guy has the physical ability. His problems are/were mental. Take away half the stuff he had to worry about, who knows what would have happened.

Watch the Alabama game. Young played amazing. One of the greatest games I’ve seen a qb play. But he was playing harassed, pressured, pushed. Hooker on the other hand was throwing passes to his buddies in the back yard compared to BY. THATS coaching.

That's coaching AND an O-line playing at the absolute cusp of their abilities.

Face it, those boys were dialed in all game I have made my complaints about the O-line, but I'm also man enough to admit those guys won the game for us on Oct 15.

It’s the Wr splits… but I bet half the forums doesn’t even know what that means :) if you do get at me
This is it. Splits force the safeties and LB's to commit to either run or pass. It leaves CB's and safeties on islands against receivers they can't cover. Thus Tillman and Hyatt running wide open.

The best thing about this team is that CJH is doing this with the young men that werr recruited by cornbread. This young men have bought into the TN culture. It was a quick turnaround.

Along with the splits, I believe they call routes on one side for zone and routes for man coverage on the opposite side. Hooker identifies the coverage and only has to look at one side of the field. This is probably not done on every play and for every opponent but a genius way to make the reads simple for a QB. With the WR choice or option routes, and a good throw from Hooker it is nearly impossible to defend. I believe the biggest factor in the success is the fact the team sounds like they did not take a second off during the off season and continued to work and get better. It makes for a lot better chemistry and timing between QB and WR. I hear both Hooker and Hyatt talking about how much work they all put in during the summer which is definitely showing on the field this year.
