It seemed like Milton helped the offense more than ever.

they chuck it deep because it’s a safe pass. Those will open up the run game which will allow the run game to gap the D later in games……..and it usually works.

Did it more so today because no Hooker/had Milton.
Also, because that's the only pass they feel comfortable he may be able to connect. The Hail Mary or the bubble screen.

Why we don’t throw over the middle more is beyond me especially with him in there. He seems really comfortable throwing slants and crosses and can fit them into tight windows with his arm strength.

I agree completely with the latter point. I actually believe that Joe could get into a better rhythm if he didn't throw deep so often. He was highly effective in garbage time this season, probably because he came into the game completely relaxed, with a massive lead, and repeatedly dropped long-range missile strikes against enemy positions. It is, of course, an entirely different scenario as a starter; he just needs to learn how to let the game "come" to him, instead of launching one ICBM after another.

I thought we should have ran more all season. It seemed like with hooker with the coaches call would call him to pass pass pass. Tonight it seemed to start off like that. Milton stretched it out with just madden drunk bombs. Of course he could have hit some but it’s sloppy conditions with your best WRs out. Still think he has amazing potential.
Then the stretch led to a heavy run game. Should we have been a heavy run game to begin with? Yes it a lot of ways. I still think we should run more and not just on second down.

Lots of wind tonight. Didn't help passing game

I think Milton is popular with the team and that also helps the cause. The players play hard for him. He really needs to work on his accuracy (I also wish we utilized more short/medium passes with him).

I foresee some long days and nights with the coaches during the off-season. Heupel and Co know they gotta get Joe ready to go next level for next season to keep the momentum going.

maybe but it’s just way safer.

Tennessee’s got a good run game, and a great O game plan. Even if the run game isn’t open early it will usually open up later. They just don’t want turnovers.

If you hit some of those bombs that’s even better. However just by throwing them it opens everything up and it’s safe. Throwing an 8 yard crossing route doesn’t really open anything up and it’s not nearly as safe.

He missed a few???? he was less than 50%. He can get better???? Can he? He has had many opportunities to prove that and hasn't yet. Tough to throw in the wind. He overthrew our WRs throwing into the wind. I don't think arm strength in the wind was an issue for Milton. He had several issues but the wind wasn't it.
Omg you missed the whole point. And yes the wind caused the pass to Squirrel to trail back to the middle of the field.
We are 10-2 for the first time in 20..... Can you miserable people not fond some happiness instead of something to always b1tch and moan about ? Seriously ? I trust the coaching staff to decide who plays and they will continue to give my support.

I think he is what he is, he's basically a Senior, accuracy has been his problem all along, he's been in the system two years, I hope a miracle happens but I don't see it at this point, I just hope we can land a quality guy in the portal.

He appears to not be familiar with this short/medium passing of which you speak. And do not get me started with the touch or lack thereof on his passes. Was a great win and a great season. He needs a lot of work imo.

I am happy tonight. The defense stepped up. The O-Line showed out, and the RBs took advantage of the O-Line showing out. 10 wins is a great season. The best thing for me about tonight is that the coaching staff pulled this team back together after what appeared to be a splintered locker room just a week ago. If that is accurate as it appears, that confirms Heupel is the right man for this program.

All that said, Milton was bad tonight and looked just like he did last year.

It's Vandy. We ran the ball because they couldn't stop it and Milton was like 55% for 140 yds. We didn't block well vs South Carolina or UGA and they made us 1-dimensional.

Madden? Looked more like Tecmo Bowl to me. Either the play blew up in our face, was a long bomb, or a 50+ yard run. Took me back to those days LOL.

I don't put too much on Milton as the rain is going to affect the pass game. Keyton straight dropped one that was 60 more yards.

The Milton hate remains strong in some, which is no surprise. Never mind the rain. Nevermind some passes the WRs didn't hold onto the ball, likely due to the rain as well. Neverminbd, some of our OL and DL got injured due to the slop falling on the field. It's all Milton's fault in the eyes of his haters, and that's just the way it is.

Yea ok that's certainly one way to look at it. Or a case could be made that we defaulted to the running game after Joe overthrew 8 passes or so, and after he appeared to have little touch on most of his passes. Coach JH I am sure would like to have a good balance of pass and run, and isn't looking for 150 yds passing against Vandy. That about 80 yards passing for the whole game exclusive of the first pass to Hyatt.

He missed Fant wide open on a seam up the middle. Same pass he airmailed last year vs Pitt up the middle.

It seems pretty obvious why they don’t throw it over the middle with Milton so I don’t understand what you don’t get.
He threw a pretty good pass to Merrill for a td over the middle today. He’s thrown darts over the middle in games earlier this year and completed them. He looks way more comfortable making throws on a rope over the middle than deep/touch passes to the sideline so not sure what you don’t get.

Thanks for being reasonable with Joe and giving him full credit in crap conditions. He’s been nothing but a Vol

Actually, 11-21 is better than 50%.

He said slants. He actually throws the slant well. Or post ins whatever doesn’t require touch

I don’t think anyone in here is questioning how well of a teammate or Vol he is. He’s just not the future unless he develops more. He stared his first option down all night. He literally pivots directly to option 1 and stays there. Maybe he’s coached this way. Who knows but if you watch that’s exactly what he does. He had all day to work thru options 2 & 3 or even run but he doesn’t.

Good thing is he has a month of practice to get prepared for the bowl game

Milton still has issues with putting touch on passes. That needs to get fixed because we won’t win against the big boys with overthrowing on 8 out of every 10 passes beyond 15 yards downfield.

The defense played better and the running game was on point . . . But it’s Vanderbilt. Thank goodness we didn’t replay 2016 again.

That loss against South Carolina was so inexcusable, though. Tonight doesn’t come close to erasing it. Now we get to hear the stupid crap about “Beamer Ball” over and over and listen to Beamer and Rattler run their mouths. If you’re listening to the SEC post game commentary, that’s all they’re covering right now. Nobody cares that we curb-stomped a Vandy team that had won 2 SEC games in a row.

That fool Beamer just said that the playoff committee should just ask him about the teams because he came out pretty good against us and Clemson. THAT’s what our team handed that idiot on a silver platter with that massive choke last week.

I hope our guys watch that footage and use it to get ticked off and ready for the bowl game and next season.
He’s a total tool and Dbag I hate that guy more every day he was the one coach I really hoped we wouldn’t lose to.
