Patient you must be young grasshopper. Otherwise we are going to be in a very similar spot again. This go around has to last a little longer than the last two did.

my prediction for 2013: great hire, 8-9 wins, a substandard coach: 6-7 wins if that...but next yr wont be a blowout year...its going to take baby steps to get dominant and a national power once again...heck it only took bama what 2 yrs to be a NC with Saban??

I 100% agree...a year at minimum but seriously Dooley's leash would have been a little longer had some of those incompetent losses been wins. It's the same for whomever comes into this kind of job.

It will take at least a year for us to be good with a brand new coach coming in.

Wrong!!!! Pearl took Buzz's players and won with them in his first year.

I bet that Saban can come to U.T. with this roster and win in his first season. Of course, maybe 7 players will be gone but he can still win in his first season. Lathers, Patterson, Thomas, Rivera, Rogers, Waggoner, & Hunter.

I believe the players are in place but Dooley didn't develope the players. They were slightly better as seniors than they were as freshmen. Saban can develope the current players.

Yeah, it happens all the time......Ohio State, Ole Miss, Florida......oh wait!!
I hate to tell you this but Florida was 7-6 in Muschamp's first year, and 3-5 in the conference. Ole Miss is better, but 5-6 this year and 2-5 in the conference. Their conference wins are over Auburn and Arkansas, who are really bad.

6-6 next season with a bowl trip will feel like a Super Bowl after these last 4 years. If we have 1 upset people will be ready to rename Phillip Fulmer way!

Should have been competing for the East this year. Bad clock management and defensive scheme cost us at least 3 games. Even if we just return 3 starters on the o-line we should be fine next year. Downs was developing nicely as a run blocker and Croom will allow for more 2 TE sets. On offense all we are really missing is a power back.

AJ Johnson would be fine staying at middle but needs to be in a Jim Johnson D like the Eagles to run. Similar to Jeremiah Trotter.

Given our recruiting class coming in, I wouldnt put any cash on us being THAT much better next year. I would give the new staff 3-4 years to cycle their guys in and implement their systems.

Understatement if I've ever heard one.....It's going to take several years but the embarrassment stops Now!
This nightmare resembles someone throwing stones at a Beautiful Tennessee Walking Horse.....Vol pride will again be something to be proud of, just like a Beautiful Tennessee Walking Horse!
Go Tennessee Vols

It may take longer, but let's not do the whole "well, I can't make any judgements until 3 years have passed" silliness that people engaged in during Dooley's reign of terror. You should be able to tell very early on if the team is improving or not.

If we get Gruden at the rumored asking price then win lose or draw we'll have cast our fate.

It makes me a little sick to think we're on our fourth coach in seven years already. Recruiting this year is shot and that's 90 percent of winning college football these days. Yeah, maybe we get a decent coach. We still have two to three years before being respectable again. I just don't see what all the celebrating is about. We hired the wrong guy and now he's fired. Yay us.

No. UT could have been GOOD this year. 7-5 would have been good, and Dooley basically was a defensive hire from easily going 8-4 this year.
With the right DC UT would have beaten SC and Mizzou. Potentially even more.
Missing a bowl and losing records two years in a row is lowering the bar to the dirt. Dooley's record was horrible. Wretched. The next coach isn't going to be asked to win the East his first year. There is enough material to not go 0-6 in the conference even if Bray, CP and Patterson go pro.
UT can be good next year. I would say any finish (after bowl) over 500 would be good.
And no, recruiting isn't shot. UT is 2 from dead last in the conference and only ahead of UK in the East. Most of the commits will not have better offers. The right coach can breath some life into recruiting.
