"The previous seven numbers that have been retired will continue to not be worn by current Tennessee football players. However, the criteria under which those numbers were retired includes a provision by which specific permission could be granted by the honoree or, if the honoree is deceased, surviving family members of the honoree, to allow the number to be worn again by a current player."

Originally UT had only retired 4 numbers: 32, 49, 61, and 62. For Bill Nowling, Rudy Klarer, Willis Tucker, and Clyde 'Ig' Fuson respectfully. They were all killed in WW II.

This is not all the players who deserve recognition. Personally I think every player to wear the the Orange and White deserves it. The list goes on and on, these guys are just some that I got to watch. Majors was before my time as well as a lot of others.
