It's Done - Strong will be announced [unconfirmed]

i would be fine with that too :) options of good coaches will be going downward if Strong or Gundy turns UT down, who else is left ? Fedora?

Strong hasn't said anything yet! Maybe the sources at UL are better than the ones so many posters on here have! I believe we will know something soon.

it seems no one wants to coach at tennessee. we should hire petrino because no one wants him. maybe a match made in heaven or hell but he can coach and win.

Might force Hart to take a chance on Tressel, who is the most qualified candidate of the bunch, and the only one that would make all the other SEC coaches say "Oh Shiite!!!"

Hopefully the folks that let Phil go will see the error in their ways and bring him back.

It is starting to look like we are waiting until we find any coach that will take the job. When will Hart make the trip to Cookeville to talk to Watson Brown? Coach Fulmer sounding any better to anyone as of yet?

If worse comes to worse we can do without a head coach for a year or two. We haven't had one for the last 3 years anyway.

Anyone paid much attention to all of the Gruden threads, and how the OGs laid out the groundwork for what would happen in the process of hiring Gruden? If you haven't, then it's happening now. Another poster that seems to have legit info said yesterday that it was planned for all of these names to be thrown around, and with one of them we will be "so close", but it doesn't happen. This sets the stage...someone said a few posts up that Strong is the last realistic coach left (that's worth two cents)...sounds like he may end up staying at Louisville. He wanted this job...BAD!!! And we can match anything that Louisville can pay him, which means he must not be who we really want. If he stays, then things will look extremely bleak on Rocky Top....enter Dave Hart...this is where he comes in "to save the day" and gets the deal done with Gruden. The original groundwork laid down by the OGs in that thread is happening so precisely to the way it was told, that you just can't deny it anymore.

This is embarassing. This is a coaching job that coaches should be jumping at. What is going on? Have we really dropped that far from the top tier of programs that someone like Charlie Strong turns us down?

Ha, checking in to see how your coaching search goes.

He doesn't want to deal with volnation, and neither does anyone else. Miss Dooley yet? you should.

Stop being so concerned with the BCS bull and start trying to build a good football program again.

The Tennessee Charley Browns...good grief.

No one, worth having, wants to coach in Knoxville. We are going to settle for another Dooley. Let's give the next guy more than 3 years. Because it is becoming abundantly clear that UT is an undesirable coaching position.

So let's grab a REAL UP AND COMER, grit our teeth and bear it, for the next 5-7 years, while he actually builds something here.

No regretting the firing of Dooley. But, we aren't going to get a PROVEN COACH. Proven coaches are smart, and they realize that it is TOO MUCH WORK to win in Knoxville.

5 years, and we'd better be beating some of the teams that we've been losing to. At least hovering around 8-4, 7-5, with a couple bowl games. And for God's sake, defend the home field. Make Neyland Stadium a scary place again.

Yes we will, sit back. All is well, I can understand you are skeptical but it will be fine.

The fact that you still believe in Dooley shows exactly how little you know about football. You may know a little about being a fan. But your "X's and O's" are that of a cheerleader.

I doubt that anyone truly misses Dooley. Whether we "Rate" a Big Time HC or not, Dooley was a giant failure. He lost his team two years in a row. I don't have the space or time to mention all the STUPID mistakes that were made on his watch.

5-7 more years of "Total Suck".

Not buying season tickets for next few years. Can't afford to spend that kinda money to watch My Vols get RAPED.

There's not much downside to a coach like Strong. Obviously he's not the Messiah, but he's been a consisten class act for years, and he's got a reputation for building some fierce players/strategies. He's coached successfully in huge games (even as a coordinator), and it's clear he knows 1) what winning looks/feels like, 2) how to get it done, and 3) how to do it on a regular basis.

When we hired Kiffin, it seemed like fun, but I always sort of wondered in the back of my mind if his "loose cannon" or "wild west, nobody can tame me" ways would cause trouble. That proved to be true.

When we hired Dooley, I hadn't ever heard of him, and after researching knew he wouldn't be bringing to the table what we needed simply because he'd never even coached around it before in any significant leadership role.

All of those major concerns go away with Strong. I believe he would be very easy to support, and I think he's the kind of coach that players love to play for.

When it comes to the "homerun hire", I don't give a rat's ass, because this is football, not baseball - and I'm interested in my team scoring lots of touchdowns while preventing the other team from having a chance.

I have ZERO inside sources, no crystal ball, no "gut feeling"...but the FACTS show that if Strong's our guy, Tennessee football could very well be in for some pretty awesome Saturday's.

EDIT: Whoops, somehow posted this in the football forum. Mods, can you delete? I'll move it myself.

Pay and get Urban Meyer - this is getting ridiculus -- UT has the cheapest (or greedist) boosters in the nation it seems.

It feels right for every reason you gave. His players were always fierce at Florida against us.

I would love to hear some of his thoughts on how they attacked us back in the days he was at Florida. It seemed like they were always a step quicker than us and great tacklers. That would have been a huge help with this year's team. Dooley would still have a job.

GO VOLS!! Hire Charlie!!
