It's gotten worse...

I remember Pat’s statement: “To be the best, you must play the best.” This means the head coach schedules teams from the top of the standing, and not from the bottom tier. Why not play Louisville, Baylor, Maryland, Duke, North Carolina State, Syracuse,Ohio State? And for instate teams why not Chattanooga instead of ETSU?????? Surely we all know the answer!!

I will give Holly credit for being very good at having lowered the standard of competitive play during the first of the season to where mediocrity is good enough and an acceptable standard for ticket sales.

Has it really gotten much worse though? I would say it's actually right on par w/ the past few years. The cycle seems pretty much set: grab a few great recruits, lose one for one reason or another, win some ugly games, lose some ugly games, show some progress, maybe beat a top team or two, then regress a bit, break a few outrageous records, hit the tournament and see where the chips fall, repeat.

People simply aren't willing to lower their expectation to meet the new normal. This very well could be what it is for the foreseeable future. The real question is when will people accept it? You are likely to get two scenarios. Those who accept it and stay fans and those who stay fans for a period of time and then decide it's not worth it. As another poster said change is hard. Well, change is here. Now what?

The "WORSE" of which I write is the record based on SOS. Not only are we failing to take advantage of top recruits, the Folly is trying to fool us into a 'success' based on cupcakes in the schedule where NO CUPCAKES was the rule with Pat.
There is no "new normal". It's always been wins against top opponents year after year that made Pat Summitt by far the greatest of all time. Sure Geno made gaudy records but up until the last few years, those records were based on a steady cupcake diet.
