It's [not yet] official, Rick Barnes in as head coach

There's another post somewhere suggesting that TN is just temporary. Boeheim is retiring in a couple of years.

If he doesn't do better than he did the last few years at Texas, his next stop might be Mercer, not Syracuse.

Has Rick barnes been a perennial underachiever the last few years?
Yes, absolutely

Is this still a good hire for the Vols?
Yes, absolutely

A veteran coach with a proven track record who recruits well, and will stabilize a program that went through 4 coaches in 4 years. Tennessee desperately needs a coach like Rick Barnes right now, even if his best days are behind him.

I am satisfied.

Good points, I just hope Hart didn't rush into this hire. But then who is to say Bama may have tried to scoop him.

My hope was for Rick Byrd of Belmont as a stabilizer and proven winner. Barnes is a Hart safe hire to get his pension. The Murray coach was to risky for Hart. All about Hart hire.:thud::thud::thud:

You are so fired up about Hurley, considering there are two of them. You spell Pitino's name wrong and you don't know the name of the "Murray State Coach" compelling argument made.

You miss the point entirely, Mr. Grammar police. The point is that we'd be better off taking a chance on someone (anyone) unproven, than to take a washed up, has been re-tread, that Texas ran off. That's the point, irregardless of a spelling error or forgetting someone's name.

Regardless.....not irregardless.

More grammar police stuff. Trust me, it will pay off for you down the road to not use irregardless.

You and the rest of the butch women would complain about it either way. Good safe hire for a good price. Now don't you have another athletic department to cheer for?

What is your problem? I only inferred that it was a short search. Not sure why the insult. Bless your heart.

I was waiting for someone else to say it so I wouldn't be the bad guy.

But, this is spot on. Expect the results he produced at Clemson not at Texas.

Texas has had an above .500 conference record once in the last 4 years.

I don't think this will end well...even as a bridge to someone else.

Do you even know what his record was at Clemson?

4 years, 3 NCAAT's, 1 Sweet 16. He even took Providence to the NCAAT 3 times. I guess he was using those Texas resources at those places, too. Some of you guys are amazing.

Cuonzo was ten seconds away from an Elite Eight. I don't see your point. My point was that people *****ed about Cuonzo, yet he's done something in the last seven years that Barnes hasn't and most people think Martin sucks.

I'm not trying to be a jackass, but go watch a Texas game. Go see if they are well coached. Because they are not. Go look at the advanced stats. All the good things are based on athletes. Go look what Texas people are saying. They are glad he is gone. Go look at his recruiting, where 60% of his recruits since 2002 come from Texas. Dave Hart failed to look at the process.

You are better than this. You know damn well why Martin was criticized, and it had nothing to do with the Sweet 16. If he had won some more games during the regular season and we had gotten a 7 seed or better, he would probably still be our coach.

I guess you don't care what Barnes did at Clemson either, which is somewhat comparable to UT. The SEC is a lot easier conference than the Big 12, and that's not even a debate.

I think Dave Hart did look at the process, and 19 out of 20 years in the NCAAT is a nice pattern. We shall see.
