It's [not yet] official, Rick Barnes in as head coach

Hell no. No way I'm hiring a coach that just got fired!

Apparently their fanbase is like.... uh...ours. Yearly trips to the NCAA tourney is not enough.. how many times has he been.. also see the posts about Holly after the Gonzaga game. The Barnes hire is a whole lot better than getting a small college coach and trying to build him AND the program at the same time. Geez... he's had some success, let it ride.. maybe it'll work out..It's not always the coaches fault a team fails. They aren't the ones out on the floor shooting and dribbling, and throwing the ball away.

I'm excited for the hire. 90% of the battle is the Jimmies and the Joes. As for those thinking he's too old and that the game has passed him by, while that's a valid concern, maybe this will re-energize him.

FWIW, I think this is a really solid hire. Barnes is a guy that won't blow your socks off, but he's consistent and clean. At worst, I think he stays 4 years, but makes the UT basketball job MUCH more desirable when it comes time to do this again. He builds a foundation that the next coach can seamlessly expound on. He gets you out of the funk for sure. At best, the firing from Texas lights a fire under his behind and he soars. Good hire though

I've stopped listening to 3HL. Tired of the schtick, sophomoric blue humor and Blaine's falsetto voice 90% of the time. Their act is played imo.

I disliked it more when Travis was on board but at least he was entertaining. Those guys have nothing insightful to say. The model is apparently 1) make ridiculous comment, 2) read barely legible tweet from someone that (1) made angry, 3) discuss.

Edit: Don't text and drive, children.

I agree with all but the last part. Coach K is almost 70.....seems more energized than ever. Bruce Pearl is only 5 years younger at 55. Like you said.....this may energize him more. GBO!

I'm a Pearl guy but we could not get a better coach than Barnes. In the tourny 16 out of 17 years, a 402- 180 record.Go vols, with anyone coaching us!

If you like "seconds" that is fine. As for myself, if he is not good enough for Texas why would he be good enough for UT?

In 28 years of coaching, only missed the tourney 6 times.
By the time he retires we'll be the other team in the SEC and he'll hand the reins to #2 proven winner name hire.
I got the faith. Reborn.

I'm with you on that, most days they don't even talk sports just some off the wall junk like kids would do. If you think 3HL is bad try midday 180 and hearing all three of them talk about "Bama Bangs!"

Resume, check. Recruiting, check. Stability, check. Reputation, check. Solid hire given the state of the program. Not the home run hot shot name but less risk also.

You've lost it.

No I haven't. I watch a lot of college basketball. He isn't a good coach.

This is a straight, awful situation of looking at the results, not the process. Texas has THE BIGGEST ATHLETIC BUDGET IN THE COUNTRY. Austin is a place college kids want to go. Texas is a brand name, the flagship program in the state, and has numerous boosters. It's a top 15 job at minimum, and in my opinion a top ten job.

So what is Rick Barnes' strength? Recruiting. Now, you take away all of that, you had a guy who is declining, who's advanced numbers favors athletes and not coaching, and also had the fact he's taking over a bad roster and a program that is declining and you expect him to be in the tournament every year? The guy was barely making the tournament at ****ing Texas. The guy has proven and time and time again he cannot win with lesser players.

Basically, you just gave $2M for Cuonzo Martin results.

Actually, that's unfair to Cuonzo. He's made a sweet sixteen this decade.

longhorns all-time winningest coach, Providence and clemson were good stops also, thier new AD is cleaning house, FB and BB

Yeah-he's cleaning house. That's why Barnes was fired. Not for underachieving over and over and over again for about 5-7 years.
