i think most of us in the free world have just accepted the fact that New England is just better than everyone they've played. there's no more reason to doubt. No more reason to say "what if". well, almost no more reason, otherwise i would stop typing right now.

the way i see it, there's only 1 of 2 ways this super bowl can go.

the first being the obvious choice. the heavy favorite proves why it's a heavy favorite. when teams are good, they're just good. and they tend to prove it on the grand stage, leaving the viewing audience with a not so entertained feeling inside. you've seen this game before. the 55-10 Niner beat down of the undermanned Broncos. the pasting the bears put on the patriots. the Monkey off the back validation game, Niners over Chargers. the Debacle that was the Cowboys over Bills, if not for Don Bebe's forced fumble of Leon Lett, it would have just been worse.

and you watched those teams that won those games and you "knew" they were good. the game was just a formality to the coronation. they all had similarities....very good defenses, very good qb play, rb play or WR play. very good offensive lines. and great coaching.

in watching New England this year, not only do that fit that mold, they have done it better than those teams.

then there's option 2. when the unthinkable happens. the underdog shocks the world. the Jets beat the Colts on the mouth of Joe Namath. the Broncos beat the mighty Packers when previous history said Elway couldn't win the big one in his 20's, much less at 37.
these Patriots beat the fastest show on Turf in 2001 to spawn this Patriot dynasty that we've all, or mostly all, grown tired of. The steelers in 05 may be the biggest upset of all as a 6 seed going on the road for all games and winning the whole thing.

and i'm sure there are other upsets, but i'm speaking of the upset that you just didn't think would/could/should happen.

I think this game falls squarely in that category. the only people that will admit, truthfully, honestly, wholeheartedly and 100% positive that the Giants will win this game, are the Giants. and even they know it's not going to be easy.

if you go against the grain, chances are you doing so just to do so. someone has to be different, why not me? i can find a reason or two why the Giants might win, right? and if, IF, it did happen, all the sudden, you're the smartest guy ever.

however, i'd simply ask you........want to put a paycheck on it? then we'll see how 100% positive you are. and no, that's not an open challenge, i'm not a gambler, even on something that i think is as a sure thing as this. but it's really meant for...how would you answer that question? do you REALLY think the Giants, not probably, not have a shot, ARE GOING to win?

in the upsets i mentioned above, none of them were against any team, save maybe the COlts/Jets game, of the ilk of this team, or the niners of the 80s or cowboys of the 90's. and like i said, this team does it better than they did.

so i'm inclined to go with smart money. Pats win. again. bring on the draft and free agency and camp.

with that, it's only fitting that i end this with a.......... Go Giants.:eek:lol:

IMO the Giants beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl would be the biggest upset in the history of professional football. Bigger than any of the upsets you mentioned.

which is why i made the comments about the cowboys and niners dyansties....no one beat them at their best. and the patriots this year are doing it better than they did.

I beg to differ.

NE will win but I expect a close game. A blowout is not going to happen.

Im not so sure Justin. It looks like the closest part of this game will be the coin toss. Im worried about Eli getting sacked then too.

i respecfully disagree. NE is a warm weather team. Look at their performances in warm weather and in domes. if i was in vegas i'd be betting the pats hard (even though i want the giants to win). that line is artificially low because every idiot in NY is betting the giants.

And I wish they would bet more. :)

Because they really punished Eli when they played the last weekend of the regular season?

No, because they are undefeated, in a super bowl, coming into a game in which they have played before( and won several times over).

The Patriots will NOT be distracted. Tom Brady is NOT hurt. Coach B is NOT going to lose his mind in this game, and Eli and the G men are a mere stepping stone on a path to the record books.

I HATE Boston, Massachussetts, the Patriots, Brady ect...ect... BUT, they will win this game and do so rather easily. Ive said it before on here, I hope both teams destroy each other. I could care less about the Super Bowl this year.

Okay I think it will be a close game.

I never said anything about them being distracted or Brady's hurt or yadda yadda yadda. I hate don't really like the Patriots and I detest Tom Coughlin.

But if you think the G-Men are just going to curl up in the fetal position because they are playing the Patriots then I don't agree with that. The G-Men punched the Pats in the mouth. They just couldn't finish the deal.

I don't expect a blowout, that's all.

You are 100% correct about the Giants giving a good fight but not finishing the deal. If this game was played with the Patriots of 3-4 weeks ago when all the "experts" said they are "struggling" I might agree with you.

Its just not the same. I think many of the Giants are going to have a long week getting healthy or back to 100% after that Packer game and it will cost them. I think experience at the Qb position will cost them. Coaching, defense, all the hype, and sooooo much pressure to do the impossible will cost them.

They can say whatever they want about, it not being about "beating the Pats to end the streak"....whatever man, I aint buying that crapola. It will be in the back of their mind and as soon as they win (not gonna happen but hypothetically speaking) they'd say "Look at us, we beat em'".

In the end, its the Super Bowl and its Tom Brady and Bellichik. Smart money stays with whats won before and lets face it, its been a while since those guys lost anything. In short, it has to be too overwhelming for the Giants and when they fold up under the pressure, that hoodie wearing genius with his robot Qb will score at will.

to me it looked like the pats figured out the giants in the second half of the game. i don't see a repeat. i hope i'm wrong though.

what do you do when the length of the opening thread throws your computer in a loop because it can't decide which page you're starting on?

The same two teams played a three-point game a month ago. How would the Giants winning be "the biggest upset in the history of professional football"? No way it would rise to the level of Colts-Jets. That was an upset so big that it changed the sport.

I don't expect the Giants to win, of course, but to act like it's totally unthinkable is crazy. The Patriots haven't looked invulnerable in months.
