It's Super Bowl week and there's really only 1 of 2 things that will happen...

The same two teams played a three-point game a month ago. How would the Giants winning be "the biggest upset in the history of professional football"? No way it would rise to the level of Colts-Jets. That was an upset so big that it changed the sport.

I don't expect the Giants to win, of course, but to act like it's totally unthinkable is crazy. The Patriots haven't looked invulnerable in months.

Considering the offensive records the Patriot's broke this year, their ongoing dynasty, and the fact that no team in the salary cap era has gone undefeated, I would certainly call a New York win the biggest upset ever.

85 bears, 89 49ers, 93 cowboys. all blowouts. the pats have a better record and margin of victory than any of those

I wouldn't take these Pats over any of those 3 teams, but I guess that's what the salary cap has done to the NFL.

Always kind of hard to compare since the abilities and skills of athletes have increased so much over that time... IMO the more pertinent question is "Which team was more dominant in their era?" There have been teams more dominant in their time than the current Patriots, but like you said, the fact that they are even in the conversation with a salary cap is impressive.

Belichick has struck gold though. I know never say never, but I don't believe what's happened this season will ever happen again. IMO when all is said and done, and football is gone from the world... This season is the best one ever.

You're watchin' history, boys.

I agree. It would be an upset, but it's nowhere near the biggest in history. I can think of at least 2 or 3 that have been as big or bigger.

the 85 bears are 10 points better than these pats. that was and still is the greatest team ever.

As I said earlier in this thread -- these two teams played a three-point game a month ago. To say that a win by the NYG would be the biggest upset in pro football history is just insane. Namath is still wearing that crown.

This one is pretty dang close. A wildcard team with a 10-6 record that really most didn't even expect to make the playoffs (at least not Skip Bayless) versus the first team to make it to the Super Bowl (with the modern schedule) unscathed. On one side you had a coach that is already in the Hall of Fame. On the other side you have a guy that most of New York wanted fired before the season, throughout the season, and even after the team made the playoffs. Behind center you have a guy many are already calling the most clutch passer in NFL history. The Giants had a guy that many considered an embarrasingly incapable version of his older brother.

This is the biggest NFL upset I've ever seen, although I wasn't alive for the Joe and the Jets winning the first one for the AFL.

Insane? No team had ever gone as far as the Patriots had, undefeated. Additionally, they broke every passing TD record and are the only post salary cap dynasty. It was the greatest upset ever.

I wasn't alive for the Jets' win either, but IMO it stands alone (and probably always will) as the biggest upset in the sport. It forced a merger. It changed the sport. No doubt that this was a big upset, but considering that the Patriots have looked very beatable for two months, it seems really hard to act like they're the same juggernaut that they were in October. They're old, and it showed in Game 19.

I invite you to read more about Super Bowl 3.

I don't know. I'm not sure how big the NFL was back then, or how big the Super Bowl was back then. That was a big upset, but this one is pretty close to the top.

I know all I need about the third AFL/NFL Championship. Its just a difference in opinion, but I think your use of "insane" is way harsh. Besides, if the Pats were so old and beatable, the way I see it, they wouldn't have managed to do what no other team has.
