Well, I don't want Tennessee losing any games to make a point but I understand what you are saying.

I don't think Butch will lose games purposefully, but it is a true test. Strong would have been an easier litmus test for the UT brass to see if he could succeed, even though I was on the Strong train, I like the Jones hire more.

For a long time, Tennessee has voluntarily shared the wealth gained from the football program. As I understand it, the Athletic Department was not required or mandated to share any money either from ticket sales or whatever with any other area of the University. However, that "share the wealth" plan is essentially suspended until Tennessee is able through ticket sales to build up it's surplus.

It gets harder every day to be a Vol fan. If Bama athletics was down to their last $50 million, the academic side would come out the next day and say they back athletics 100%!

The $18 million is money that the Athletic department does not have to plug into the academics at UT. They will generate that money and instead of dispersing they keep it. Also with the academic standards that UT has there is a loophole where JUCO transfers have all their credits transferred as pass/fail and the GPA does not carry over. Could hurt a student athlete who has a good GPA, but help the struggling student. However, JUCO's do not offer stability as we have witnessed.

Hamilton did not manage finances well.

Agreed. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if we didn't have a lot of takers, or even downright thieves (or close to it), who've never been exposed because the university and athletic dept. did not think the potential embarrassment of exposing them was worth risking with an investigation (investigations become public).
