I believe the SEC is 1-4 against the Big 10 in the playoffs and bowls so far this year. I’m not saying that means anything, but it is a little funny since most of us including myself have been talking about how much better the SEC is than the Big 10.

I used to root SEC across the board. No more. The more SEC teams lose in the postseason, the better I feel. And yes, I'll feel even better if OSU wins it all.

So it'll make you feel better knowing we were the 3rd best team in a chump conference rather than a great one? What's the logic in that? If the rest of the SEC is trash that means we're trash as well since we struggled to beat most of our opponents this year.

There is more parody in college football now and has been with the portal and even the more lax rules on transfers over the last several years, but certainly because of the portal.

This has allowed everyone to get better and the top programs to level off some. Alabama hasn't been able to consolidate most of the top talent, by paying them illegally and a hand full of other programs (like Ohio State), which also consolidated "power". Look no further than your Hall of Fame, arguably greatest of all time, coach retiring simply because the rules changed. This tells you everything you need to know. Dude quit, because he didn't like the rules that ultimately took power (control more than anything) away from him.

Once the smoke settles and the new wears off some of how chaotic and wild West everything is with the portal, the parody is good for the sport and all programs in general and not just the select few that consolidated everything

Are you guys really going to let this slide?

Harbrace 19a.

Ive felt a lot better after the blow out since Im watching OSU blow out the Ducks possibly worse than our game . No doubt, OSU is playing their best ball of the season at the best possible time.

The playoff loss did not ruin the season. Our season was a major success and should give us momentum going in to the off-season. We should manage to get some portal talent.

I know our roster is nearly full already, but we should attract decent players for whichever position we might need.

The playoff loss was pivotal to show the WRs have been a liability for 2 seasons now. We had a few clutch receivers, but they were injured a lot. The kicker is I kept waiting to see one of the second string WRs step up and become the man, like Hyatt and Tillman both did. It never happened. Just a lot of passes hitting receivers in the hands, and then hitting the ground.

Our WRs do seem to be well-coached in blocking. That is something where our receivers were just awful the past decade, but since Heupel came to Knoxville, they are as good as any WR corps in the nation at blocking.
Doesn't help when they can only block and not get open much at all!

Season was an absolute success, until the final game.

Sadly, all anyone (sports media, recruits, and other fan bases) will remember about this season will be is we got dirt stomped by OSU.
The Arkansas game was not a success. Otherwise, the regular season was a nice success. Hopefully, the O can pass block and have WRs that get open next year. That didn't happen this year. The D needs to defend good passing teams much better too!

It’s become evident that the scales have tipped in the NIL/ unlimited transfer portal era and the Big10 is winning the argument for strongest conference top to bottom. Personally, I’m all in favor of parity in the sport again. Watching the same teams dominate for decades at a time; just isn’t fun.

I’ve been warning about this since NIL kicked off in earnest. The SEC had absolutely dog whipped the Big Ten for over a decade. We’d won. Football in the south was king. But once they made the sport solely about money, we’ve let the rich northern schools right back into this thing. They may not have been able to compete on the field, but you best believe they have money to compete and win off the field.

All the SEC’s gonna have to separate ourselves from them is our fans and our traditions - you know, those things the commercialization of the game has been eroding these past few decades. The passion will help, and we are not without money, but those yankee schools got bank and can spend like it. It’s a new day. You either spend what they spend, or you get used to fighting over scraps.

Ohio State alum stopping by again. IMO, Vol fans should feel good about the 2024 season. You don't have to be happy with how it ended, but probably no fans truly are unless their team won the national championship. Tennessee won 10 games and beat Alabama, Florida and Oklahoma. That's pretty damn good. The Vols made the CFP, one of only 12 teams to be selected. That's even better. IMHO, the CFP is a learning process for coaches & players no matter which conference the team is from. It's just different compared with the regular season / CCG. This year, all of the teams making their CFP debut with 1st time CFP coaches lost (Indiana, SMU, Tennessee, Boise State, Arizona State). Last season Texas lost in Sark's CFP debut; this season, Texas has 2 CFP wins. Tennessee will be a better program as a result of having played in the CFP this season. Key returning players -- including Nico Iamaleava -- have that experience and knowledge going forward. Now it's about improvement, accountability, leadership & determination (along with an infusion of talent).

Good luck in 2025. I hope we play UT again in the near future. In Columbus, of course, lol.

People wrote off Chip Kelly as a fraud when he stunk it up at his last 2 stops , but give that dude the reins to the offense and real talent , and he can scheme with the best of them. UCLA is a tough gig.
