Does it bother anyone else that he has taken 17 3-pointers this season? I consider those wasted possessions.

I was also a little surprised to see that Hopson leads the team at just over 37% from beyond the arc.

JP should never shoot outside of the paint.

I don't like Chism taking them either. What was he, 1 for 7 at UK? As they say, you are open for a reason.

thats a little ridiculous. I dont want him taking threes but 3 feet. really??

As for the hopson part, its just another reason everyone should get off his back.

have you ever seen him shoot FT's? That is from 15 feet and he has all the time in the world and is open. He shouldn't be trying to put the ball in the hoop unless it is a dunk, layup, or a tip in.

True, but I would allow him to shoot in the paint since he would be in rebounding territory.

I didn't say he had range up to fifteen. I just said three being the limit was ridiculous. If he got a wide open 10 foot shot I would beg him to shoot it. He was a five star recruit (if I'm not mistaken) and has played basketball for many years. Anyone who has played that long can hit an open 10 foot shot at a good enough percentage that they should take them whenever they get them.

lol. The midrange game is something that has been pretty much missing from the college game for years.

I dont care how wide open he is....he should never shoot the ball unless the conditions listed by dickens is present.

At this point they should not even let him shoot it at practice.

whats the most troubling to me is J.P. is a coaches son and every chance a commentator can bring it up on a TV game about the dad coaching I want to vomit. I mean seriously how can a coaches son have such bad mechanics shooting. I mean Steven Pearl has no talent but dog gone it id rather see him from 15 feet out than J.P. since at least his shot looks better.

From the thread title, I thought this was going to be about low percentage ventures.

About Hopson,

He doesn't shoot the ball enough, and Bruce has admitted that more than once. I love for him to pull when he has the opportunity. He needs to create more of them for himself, and not be timid about the ones he is already getting.

He'll be much better next year, after about 15 pounds added and more confidence. He'll live up to the bill of being a great player by the end of his career, just not a 1 and done Rose type (those are extremely few and far between).:salute:

I actually don't think its that bad. If it will make someone come out and guard him then its worth it IMO. He probably is the best on our team at taking it to the hoop, but it doesn't matter how good you are if your defender defends you from inside the free throw line.
