Just speculating and not advocating, but as the current defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos he is connected to Peyton Manning. Was previously thought to have been offered the USC job, and many have speculated that he would eventually land in college coaching. Here is an interesting link concerning his son and Peyton Manning as well.

Broncos' Peyton Manning takes Jack Del Rio's son under his wing - CBSSports.com

Here's his coaching tree:

NFL head coaches under whom Jack Del Rio has served:

Mike Ditka, New Orleans Saints (1997–1998)
Brian Billick, Baltimore Ravens (1999–2001)
John Fox, Carolina Panthers (2002), Denver Broncos (2012)

Assistant coaches under Jack Del Rio who have become NFL head coaches:

Mike Smith, Atlanta Falcons (2008–present)

Assistant coaches under Jack Del Rio who have become college head coaches:

Brian VanGorder, Georgia Southern (2006)
Tom Williams, Yale University (2009–present)

Would bolt to USC after Kiffin get's fired. Ouch, could we stand that scenario again?

Jack is a great defensive guy. He would field a better team than kiffin in 3 years.

He already had his chance to go to USC. Kiffin was not their first choice.

Yeah but circumstances were different. Del rio was coaching the Jags still at the time and if he walked away Jacksonville would be owed money that Del Rio didn't want to pay and USC wouldn't pay either.

I think Gruden and Cowher will be the only ones from the pros that we might talk too. If those two turn us down (which I think is very likely), then we will look to current or former head coaches on the collegiate level (ie Stoops, Davis, Mullen). If that's exhausted, then we will go of a top assistant at a top program (ie Smart) or look at smaller schools (ie Taggart).

We should put the full court press on coach Del Rio. He would fix this defense guaranteed. Anybody that questions that doesn't know football. Maybe he would retain Chaney and Graham. Our offense has not been the problem.

I suspect the powers don't feel that we can wait until Denver no longer playing which is the earliest they could talk with him. might be middle of January

Never even been on a college staff... In any capacity. Plus, I don't want another guy who might covet USC gig.

We have way too much self esteem as a fan base to think someone like Del Rio would even pick up the phone if Hart called.
