Jackson Lampley is "IN" for "One Last Ride"

Is it really necessary for players like Lampley and Davis to make these grand announcements about their return? I can’t help but think these announcements are a microcosm of their generation…what some might refer to as the by product of a lifetime of participation trophies and things of that nature
The older generations always find something to pick at even though they have done more damage to this world, country and created the participation trophy while raising and instilling values in the generations they complain of. Pretty ballsy if you ask me.

It’s funny you think I’m part of the older generation…I’m technically a millennial…although I’m on the ver low end of the range

So @ClearwaterVol , you were bitching about the limitations of the older generations while reading the comments of a fellow millennial ( @thunder5 ).

Now you owe an apology to all the silent, boomer, and gen x folks you were trying to insult. lol

Go Vols!

I don’t understand the criticism of this young man releasing a statement. That first sentence and last paragraph should give you chills as a fan.

Very few of us were ever good enough to play at the collegiate level. Lampley is clearly living his dream on the football field, as per his own words, This young man DID NOT come across like an arrogant, self-absorbed jack-wagon in his statement. Quite the opposite.

Lampley’s words radiate a love for Tennessee that we all have, especially us native Tennesseans. He has the added motivation from having played in the trenches with Vol teammates during a roller-coaster of a career. Not very many of us fans can say anything like that.

My guess is that the athletic dept. and/or football program wanted him to do this. It’s a great testimonial to the culture of the program that might resonate with recruits in the future who are taking that into account. Not to mention, it’s just fantastic that a lifelong fan gets to live out his dream on the field one more time.

This statement seemed to be more about gratitude rather than self-importance. I’m grateful for players like him - and I’m glad he’s back!!

I’m a Gen X, by the way. Born in 1975! I would have given anything to have been talented enough to play football at Tennessee. I played collegiate basketball at West Point (I spent 1-year at UT as I had to apply to the Academy twice to get in). Playing basketball in college was a thrill even though I was a bench warmer and got very limited playing time, But my experience pales in comparison to what Lampley and his teammates get to do. I am envious!

So I’ve had time to read comments and stew on this for a while…I’m also not buzzing off of several beers like I was the other night…I realize now I have overreacted to announcements like these and need to change my perspective on them…my initial thoughts about them are based on being raised to just put my head down and go to work as well as a bitterness I’ve developed over a younger generation I’m working more and more with that have a very different approach to work (and life) than I do…

I’m very glad that Lampley and Davis are back…they are excellent depth players to have and I think Lampley could carve out a bigger role if he can stay healthy…that would actually be a great story to see him start in his final year as a legacy player that has battled through injuries and one of the craziest coaching situations this school has ever seen

I am an older generation and I see nothing wrong with a player expressing his love for the Vols and living his dream.

I'm not sure how someone can read what Jackson wrote and (assuming they're a TN fan) criticize him for putting it out there.

Glad he's back and glad he's a VFL!
You'd be stunned at how unappreciative some of our Vol fans(?) are. Some of them are beyond redemption. If you offered them Tennessee Pride sausage, they'd insist on Conecuh Sausage instead, or Florida Gator Sausage instead.

Don't forget you have to have guys who push the starters to make great teams, to be ready if their number is called, even if it's not very likely. Lampley is proud to fill that role, and he should be.

Careful…thinking a backup lineman that we’re actively trying to replace in the portal should just say “I’m back” and go to work will get you blasted around here…

I see it all the time at work…this generation wants a pat on the back for everything they do…I’m now in a management position and it’s infuriating at times…I suppose I am becoming bitter about it
I see your take on it. I’m also considered a nega at times. On the flip side we would be bashing him if he just left us for a string cheese NIL deal at another school. I’m good with these guys posting. It shows leadership and a want to be in this program when he’s well aware he’s not a standout stud. It takes all types to run a healthy program.
