According to Hubbs the staff will make the decision on.both players at the end of the week. Hubbs also said that Vereen is definitely out.

From what I have been able to gather from this thread...a few people have sources (have heard blah, blah, blah) and as usual they have no clue lol.

Has it been explained as to Smith can't just play with a cast on his hand? Its just his thumb correct? I've seen that done plenty of times. Is there something else wrong?

Thumb fracture requiring surgery. If anyone has played with a cast over that injury before cleared by their surgeon, the coach should be fired. This is not the same as little finger. Thumb function is 60% of the hands total function. Using his hand before it is ready would be idiotic.

I'm not talking about using his hand at all. I'm talking about a cast over the entire hand so its basically a club. He wouldn't be moving any fingers. And I'm also not condoning him playing before being cleared by a surgeon.

I actually had a similar injury to him. I couldn't play (even with a cast/club) because I had pins in my thumb and the doctor wouldn't let me. I would guess that is why Smith isn't playing with a club

Personally I would rather Maggitt not play until Oregon. For Smith, I hope he plays a few snaps, but really need them 100% for Oregon.

you wanna just throw him out there in his first time back off an ACL against the fastest team in the country which is oregon? right.

A decision will be made latter this week. Smith will probably go...I doubt Maggit will. They need to be careful with Maggitt. I'd say mid-season at best.
