James Franklin: "The way I look at it is we have an opportunity to do something really special at Vanderbilt, Franklin said. "We have an opportunity to differentiate ourselves. I really believe there's very few schools that are going to be able to compete with us when it comes to recruiting because we have an opportunity to offer things that very few schools can.

This blew my mind. I know having a degree from a top academic university is special but what else can Vandy offer that makes other teams have no shot at competing with them in recruiting? They have the worst stadium and athletic facilities in the SEC and probably in D-1. Not to mention, most top recruits wouldn't qualify to get into Vanderbuilt. Dude has a rude awakening coming imo.

What do you want him to say?

"We are trying to do something special here at Vanderbilt, but really. . . I just dont see how in tarnation we're ever going to do that. I mean, our stadium is a dump, Hume-Fogg has a better weight room, and our fan base is just a bunch of yokels that cant afford to drive up to watch UT games. But, hey. . . we're tryin'. . . "

His energy is infectious and is getting him in front of recruits Vanderbilt wouldn't have gotten serious consideration from in the past. The hurdles are there as you pointed out but he has been effective to this point. We'll see how good he really is in the next couple of years.

The Vandy job will chew Franklin up and spit him out, unless he's all about cashing a check. He might can produce enough 4-5 win seasons and false hope to have a 5 year stay or so.

Of course I don't expect him to say, oh we are Vandy we suck, but to say we can offer "things" plural, that other schools can't, that's total BS!

You know this how?

I don't know 100% about what Vandy can offer but I do know their facilities suck, their stadium sucks and is rarely full if ever and how often are their games on national television? Those three things are usually big deals for recruits.

They gush over him here in Nashville he made sure to call into 1045 the zone just prior to Dooley coming on too. He is playing the game very well at this point. But I remind most that he was coach in waiting at Maryland and obviously they couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Did you expect him to say "we are going to work like heck"????????

The reality of the death of his career has not fully set in yet.

Lots of homerism on that show.

I read today on another MB that Vandy would be the top team in TN in three serious. If Franklin is even half way good he'll be gone by year three anyways.

Apparently whoever said that didn't get their education from Vandy. They will probably be 2-10 come December and be well outside the top 25 in recruiting come Feb! Jmo

A kid can go there and say, 'Hey, I graduated from Vandy.' That would look pretty impressive on a job resume.

But, most kids with multiple SEC offers are thinking more about the NFL than the reality of finding a real job in four years.

Ive seen Vandy showing up on a lot of Offer Lists this year. More than I ever remember seeing before.

They are not getting the guys, but their name seems to be getting out more with the upper crust. Name recognition is the beginning.

I dont know what it all means in the long run, but I think they are going to improve. But as someone else already said, if they start winning, they will have to look for a new coach.

any school can throw out an offer. I believe it was posted earlier they've given hundreds

Agreed, but if Franklin were to make Vandy competitive, this would be a nice recruiting tool. It's good to have insurance in case, God forbid, a student athlete has a career-ending injury.

Screw Vandy. This ain't the 1920's anymore. They suck balls and will always suck balls. I don't want them to improve. I enjoy them being a guaranteed win every year. Franklin is just a used car salesman and will be gone at the first offer from a better program

Not really. All Franklin has to do is two things:

1. Claim Franklin, Tennessee is named after him.
2. Have consistent .500 overall seasons which he can do by scheduling schools like WKU, UT-Martin, EKU, Bluffton College and maybe one community college.

Don't underestimate imaginative scheduling.

He still has to coach and that's a big question

At least he's more energetic than Bobby Johnson. That dude was one of the most boring coaches I've ever seen.
