Jamie Newberg says UT to finish strong

I'd add that we had a lot of defections and dismissals during the Xperiment...we need people for the scout team, special teams, etc...

I see Dooley signing a full 27, otherwise he would not have put the defensive tackle in Mobile on ice. Cannot remember the kids name but he was being recruited at La Tech.

I can see filling spots with linemen who are not headliners. We did pretty good with the 2 Sullins kids who were walk ons. Reveiz wasn't bad either. None are all SEC material, but they filled some needs. With all of the coaching changes and vacancies, we will have to back fill for a couple of years until the staff gets its bearings. We should sprinkle in a few great players with these fillins.

Is this referring to Scout.com ranking? What is the story there?

Newberg does a show on CSS called "Countdown to signing day"---he may be affiliated with Scout--but I am not sure. The show is based out of Atlanta.

JN is a good source of information although he is a Georgia homer. He usually does not like Tennessee and his reports reflect this. The fact that he has us finishing strong, to me, means we are likely to do so. Looking forward to Next Wednesday.

We have all figured this out by now. Saying that we were going to finish with a wimper would be more news to me.

I think we need to sign a full class even if we have to get several 3* players. For the most part, rankings are based on what you have done, not what you can do. The key is to find players with a high ceiling. After all, every player we sign will have to get much better than he was in high school to get on the field in college. Anyone who beggs to differ with me needs to be referred to the Colts. Wayne, Collie, Garcon, Addai, Bullet, Bracket, and Clark just to name a few were all 2 or 3 * recruits coming out of highschool. WE NEED A FULL CLASS.

One thing I agree with Kiffin on that refutes this. You dont sign kids to fill a spot that you will replace next year or that will never see the field. If the kid is good, take em, but you dont just "fill" the class to do it.

We are so lacking in depth right now that I think you do fill the class, remember some of these kids you sign to fill spots will be playing special teams, an area we have been very poor in. Some of those kids will play above expectations and contribute, others won't, the bottom line is we desperately need depth at many positions and these "fill" players will certainly add depth.

You do when your down as many bodies as we are right now. i am not suggesting that we go to all the local high schools and just sign the senior class to a scholarship. We are in a situation where we have to rely on our coaches to evaluate what these under recruited players can do in the future, and take a chance on them.

OL projects that may add depth or become starters for 4 years would be the only exception this year, since we're so low.

Other than that, if we keep our current lineup of signees I think we're at a point where filling out the class isn't necessary.

If we had 14-16 signees, then yeah, we need bodies. I hear we're not at the 85 limit even with a full class this year, and we need to be there by the 2011 class at least.

In an ideal situation, I would agree. But as others pointed out...with our lack of depth in key spots...we absolutely need to "fill" this class.

Realistically I could see us finishing with:
Neal
Bennett
Glass
Rivera
D. Jones
C. Green
J. Stone
N. Nance (low possibilty)
D. Rogers (low possibility)

It would also not surprise me one bit if we lost Eddrick Lofton to USC.

99% of the time I would agree with you. However, we need bodies over there for practice if nothing else.

Nail-head!! Practice. Something else, don't some of the EE's count against last year's class? Surely there is some way to get to 85----we saw the effect of short-handedness last year.

IMO we will fill out the class and we need to. I don't think that Dooley would have taken Glass and Martaze if he wasn't going to fill out the class.
