Jarvis Jones

This kid was recruited as a linebacker and is a freak. Was a surprise to the whole town when he went to USC. Would be a great pick up for the Vols. Good kid, too. :pepper:

he's transferring because the USC coaches refuse to play him. he suffered an extreme neck injury and has been cleared to play by doctors outside of the trojan staff, but the coaces think the injury was too severe. I don't know if this would be considered a good pick up. too risky.

Well someone posted in the recruiting forum he is supposed to be here on an unofficial visit this weekend, so who knows?

If I were him I would come here just to learn under Coach Smith. Because even if he doesn't have a future playing, he could still coach. That is if he is interested in that sorta thing.

if Kiffin released him to go anywhere he wants, and that kid is bitter and wants to prove something to him.. then most definitely.

Trojan Fan Here. I registered so I could respond to this post, and this thread in general.

From what I understand, Jarvis was given his release with NO restrictions on where he could go.

He is also, FAR from bitter. He made an agonizing choice to either try to continue his career somewhere else, or stay at a school he absolutely loves.

USC has had to deal with s this ituation twice before in the last few years. First with Hard hitting Safety from Tampa, Mike Ross. He was so hard hitting, he had a serious problem with concussions. Mike was never cleared by the USC Doctors, and DID have some bitterness at times. He chose to stay, and recieved his degree.

The other time was with another LBer from last years class, Frankie Telfort from Miami. A pre-camp physical detected a Heart Condition that could be fatal if he over exerts himself. Frankie has stayed at USC and was allowed to become a student coach, so he can be part of the team and pursue his dream of a career in medicine. There have been rumblings that he has found doctors that will either clear him, or maybe correct the condition, but I doubt USC's Doctors will clear him

As for Jarvis, if he can get cleared, if UT's Medical Staff will clear him, he would be a tremendous addition. He was probably, along with Telfort the most well liked and respected recruit in last years class. ALL the players and coaches love him. My "Nephew" is a LBer on the USC team, and his mom just raves about Jarvis.

He was the most physically ready to play LBer to come to USC since Rey Maualuga,Keith Rivers and Brian Cushing. Even in the Ohio State game, he was a starter in the Goal Line defense because of how stout he was.

You couldn't ask for a better kid. We love him.

How if Kiffin working out so far for you guys?

So far we are undefeated.

I am not sure I know how to respond to, or IF I want to respond, because I don't come to other teams boards to have conflicts.

I just wanted to shed a little light on Jarvis as a player, and as a person.

I wasn't wanting a conflict, just curious how he was handling everything at USC. Appreciate the insight on Jarvis.

Intelligent conversation and balanced perspective is always welcome. Trolls are treated appropriately.

A thick skin is always helpful, even amongst our own.

Welcome. :hi:

Ok, just didn't want to come here and have people think I am trying to stir up crap.

AND,

I noticed you have a poster with the name KiffinKiller

AND,

since I am assuming that KiffinKiller lives in the general UT area,

AND,

since LANE is in Los Angeles

AND

since I am an easy drive down 441 (Athens Georgia)

I DO NOT want to anagonize my new best friend, KiffinKiller.

In ANY way

KiffinKiller, if you read this, just between me and you, I HATE LANE KIFFIN. He is the WORST person to visit Tennessee since General Sherman. No reason to read any further.

All kidding aside, I think he has done great. He was a pretty polarizing figure during his last time at USC, ESPECIALLY after Chow left.

But from every indication, he has really changed quite a bit in the three years he was gone. I don't know him, but I have friends who know him very well, and they all say that he is much different. Much more relaxed, much more.................approchable and he just seems really happy.

We also LOVE Coach O. He is probably the most beloved Assistant Coach to be at USC besides the Late, Geat Marv Goux, who has almost a Sainted position in USC fans hearts.

I think it has ended up well for both schools. Living in Athens, I am quite familiar with Derek Dooley, and have never heard anyone say a negative thing about him.

I think Lane would have been at Tennessee for at least 5-8 years if the USC job hadn't come open, but there was no guarantee it would ever come open for him again.

I am sure there are people in Knoxville that do not want to hear that, but it just my opinion.

Thanks for your update. Most reasonable fans (if that's possible) around here understand that Kiffin left because USC is his dream job. Some folks got bent out of shape the way it all happened so fast and a week or so before signing day.

Perfectly understandable.

Who among us thought the Cleveland Browns firing their GM would have started this chain of events?

Like I said, I think it worked out the best for everyone.

And I am sure there will be some huge advances in Kevlar Clothing by the time USC comes to Knoxville in 9 or 10 years.

Has there been any USC rumors on where Jarvis will transfer?

None at all. I mean I have heard Clemson was his second choice out of HS, but who knows? It may come down to the first good school who will clear him. He obviously made this choice based on wanting to continue his football career.

I am wondering if he can't get cleared, can he go back to USC and get a Medical Exemption and continue his Education, because as far as I know, that woulod be legal.

Actually, I don't know that for sure, bur it SHOULD be legal. I mean he is a student at USC in good standing, so I don't see why he couldn't just come back and taje a medical.

I guess it depends on if he can convince someone that he is not a risk.

I just hope whatever happens, ends up being the best possible thing for Jarvis

I searched and didn't see this posted anywhere. Jarvis jones has officially transfered to UGA. He will take a medical redshirt this season and have 3 yrs. to play 3. It's been all over Atlanta radio all day today.

If he can overcome his injuries. He'll be playing LB more likely and not DE though. Don't expect him to contribute for a couple year though.

That article from the AJC on here the other day said Gabe Wright & Isaiah Crowell would likely follow Jarvis. :bad:

Best article I read on this whole situation was from KNS website a few days ago. Article was about how tough this ordeal has been on LK.

According to Pete Carroll, he has spoken with LK and LK is taking the sanctions hard. Ironically, LK tells Pete the worst part about the sanctions is that other schools are free to actively recruit his juniors and seniors right now while they are on USC's roster. Says its akin to NFL free agency.

Poor baby. I am sure he has never considered the irony in that situation.

To quote LK, "It's all part of the business." And, to quote The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, "It's just bidnessth." Nothing personal, just Bidnessth."
