After graduating in three-and-a-half years and living her dream of being a Lady Vol basketball player, the hoops career of Tennessee forward Jasmine Jones is coming to an end.

The University of Tennessee Athletics Department issued the following statement Monday on Jones’ status.

Due to the contact nature of basketball and the risks of further injury, the UT Athletics Medical Staff has decided Jasmine Jones will no longer be cleared to participate on the women's basketball team. Instead, she will be focusing her athletics ability on non-contact and throwing events on the women's track & field team.

Best wishes to a Lady Vol who wasn't afraid to give her all for this team. We wish you nothing but the best, Jasmine.

She should not jeopardize her health. Once it's gone, it's gone. I'm glad she can continue to pursue athletics, but in a less risky way.

This hurts I really liked her the staff did nothing to help her as a player. She definitely always left it on the floor. I will remember her for always being the most competitive player in every top 5 game she never backed down to anyone. This sucks balls.

Sorry to hear about this but it seemed to be a likely outcome. Actually. it will be interesting to see how she does in T&F. Jasmine certainly has the physical tools. Glad she has another sport to turn to.

Jasmine has been a good trooper for the program. I can only wish her the best, sad it ended this way. Now we are down to 9 players for next year. The way things look now, we have a long uphill battle going forward.

Post depth was shaky before the announcement. It's just downright scary right now.

Assuming no transfers out or JC players, that leaves Mercedes as the only true post player. Dunbar or Nared will be forced to play the high post. If I'm Jaime, I'm not liking that one bit because she needs to develop at the wing if she wants to play in the WNBA.

If Holly is indeed given a chance to right the ship next season, she will have her work cut out for her.

or holly could sign 6' 4" Schubert ?

I don't see many other viable options. I don't think Holly's in a position where she can be choosy. Schubert may not be "Tennessee material" based on historic merit, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

feared this would happen, i wish her well.

Even if they do take Schubert i still think they should also start looking at some JUCO players immediately. the entire staff need to get busy.

I doubt much will come of JJ's track and field flirtation. She symbolizes the program's woes.

Man, you just hate all things associated with the Lady Vols? Such anger and cynicism, even about Jasmine Jones and the Track and Field team.

Maybe you should take a long break from this board and all things UT.
