Planting the flag isn't disrespectful unless it is willful destruction of their field, which it wasn't cause it had a some kind of ball of tape that prevented that on the end. I don't know why this is even a big deal. All it is, is a sign of victory anyway. I wouldn't give a crap if they did that at Neyland on the T to us after a victory like that. If you are going to start calling planting a flag disrespectful, then Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are a bunch of jackasses for planting the USA flag on the moon. This is just sour grapes by some fans that got pissed cause they lost a game they wanted dearly after some devastating current events and didn't want others showboating in front of them. I am sure they would of showboated in front of us if given the chance, hell they were doing it in the first half when we were sucking. This is an emotional game and if you can't take it, then you should find something else to watch because people are going to celebrate after beating your team.

I didn't hear anybody complaining when they stuck a flag in the moon.

I don't see planting the flag as poor sportsmanship.

I consider getting in a player's face after a big hit as poor sportsmanship.

After the game though, that field belongs to the winner.

I don't see planting the flag any less intimidating than our players directing our band at an opponent's field.

Think about it. The field is the arena of play. It is the territory that you struggle to take for 60 minutes of play. You've fought to stake out your territory and when you win, that territory temporarily belings to the victor.

Was Rick's toss of the ball into the LSU student section poor sportsmanship? I don't think so. I certainly believe that went farther than the flag planting because it involved direct contact between our players and their students.

And I also think you guys are missing one very key element in all of this.

Our team was taunted to a very pitiful degree as they arrived. Our team's bus windows were broken by over zealous fans and our players didn't forget that. Our team knew that LSU had used their advantage with the storms to gain public sympathy, and had refused the reasonable earlier request of a day game for Saturday to help our fans who couldn't find rooms.

I believe that with all of the circumstances leading up to the game, including many LSU fans saying coach Fulmer was afraid to go to Baton Rouge sheds a different light on our guys behavior after the game.

I find myself shocked at saying this, I agree 100% with Old Vol. This kind of gamesmanship is widespread in college football today. Any LSU player who would react to this by fighting is a chump. Fred Weary was a chump for going after Georgia players a few years ago when they danced on the "T" after the game. LSU should simply remember the flag and use it as motivation for the game in Knoxville next year. If they win, I personally don't care if they paint the "T" purple and gold. To the victors go the spoils.

Who cares? He done it at UGA too......He'll do it when we go to Bama and ND and take care of business as well.....It was a mark of our incredible come back....Matter of fact, I'm going to use that as my new avatar.

I'll bet you that, with the exception of OldVol, this issue probably splits along generational lines. The younger you are, the less offended by this you are.

I'm 16 so I've seen just about everything in a football game from jumping on the mascot in the middle of the field-to what Jason Allen did....I think its pretty intense when a player does that...Makes a statement

I am old enough to remember a time when your opponent's victory was viewed as a trimph.

When Weary got upset when they planted the flag on the T he should have been using that energy to beat them.

When I was playing ball you did not get in your opponent's face. You did not taunt after a good play, but before the play, anything was fair play. After the play, you helped each other up and gave 'em a pat on the rump and went to the huddle and started the process all over again.

After the game the victor should act like the victor and the loser should act like the loser. In my opinion that means the winner stays and celebrates and does it with his teammates and does not taunt the foe. The loser, on the other hand, tucked his tail between his legs, shut his mouth and went to the dressing room.

I'll never forget in 1999 Georgia came to Knoxville and BEFORE the game gathered at the 50 yard line and stomped on the T . . . . Then they kicked off the game and we beat the crap out of them. :D

I was there and I don't think he actually planted it. I do agree that planting of a flag is not the best symbol of sportmanship, but I understand that after coming back from that much... emotions can sometimes run high. I think right now the LSU fans just need something to talk about other than firing their coach and how he screwed up... which is what we heard on the radio the 3 hours it took us to get out of the stadium. In the end, I hope it at least LSU can pull it together and beat Florida.

Even as an avid Vol fan, I don't take great offense if a team wants to celebrate on our power T AFTER they beat us; however, I am glad our players value the logo that represents our beloved Tennessee Volunteers. I don't agree that any player is a "chump" if another person is disrespecting something that's precious to them.
