She had injuriees her freshman year and saw little to no time this year she was only in to spell Coates.. Whites game is similar to that of Wilson's.. I really thought that White was coming to Tennessee until Wilson committed to SC White was te hgiest ranking wbb recruit ever signed at SC...
No, Kelsey Bone was ranked first by BlueStar and second in Hoopgurlz and ASGR in 2009. White was ranked 3rd by BlueStar, 7th by Hoopgurlz, 12th by ASGR, 20th by Prospects Nation (which did not exist in 2009).

Thanks for the welcome. And from which board do you know me?

You're welcome and honestly I'm not trying to be rude but I don't really think that matters which board I know you from does it? I'm sure you've browsed here before so you know the climate of VolNation....all I'm asking is that you be as respectful and share your wealth of basketball knowledge like you do on other boards. :)

about transfers...do they work out? Okay Diamond was a no brainer, but even Pat told Anne Donovan, or was it Nancy Lieberman, to stay at ODU when she wanted to transfer. So my question is, excluding JCs, what transfers have worked out anywhere? Or, do they disrupt team chemistry, like I think Davis will at USC? Michelle M. comes to mind

Spinderella? I'd say she worked out. I think Alyssa Brewer did well wherever she went - can't remember, and Tree at SC. The whatever pg we had who tranferred mid season (she was our only pg and Lex had to play pg with a broken hand in the tourney:eek:hmy:) bombed at MD I believe. Davis is a big wait and see...may be more mom problem than girl, but.....

And the girl, Michelle?, from Ohio whose brother played football..how did she do? Good kid. Also, how did Amber Grey do? That is one I really felt sorry for.

I hope SC wins every game they play but three...and all three loses are to us:).

Brewer did well at UCLA
Cybil Dosty left us and led Arizona State to the Sweet 16
Kelsey Boone left SC and Played Well at Texas A&M. I think it truly depends on the program they are transferring to and the level of expectations.

I had forgotten Cybil. Would like to see a list of transfers in/transfers out for us and how they did. Lauren left, but not to play ball, needed to take care of her health and future. She was one we really liked. Very nice girl, wonder how she did?

April McDivitt had a decent year when she transferred her sr. year to UCSB.

Other recent transfers that have done well: Alexis Jones at Baylor, DeNisha Stallworth and Samarie Walker at Kentucky, Elena Delle Donne at Delaware, Brianna Banks at PSU to name a few. I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head.

There are tons for next year as well, and I can't imagine that Stephanie Mavunga, Allisha Gray, Kaela Davis, Linnae Harper, Sadie Edwards, Lexie Brown and Sierra Calhoun among others won't become immediate contributors for their team. I don't get where this "transfers disrupt chemistry" is coming from. If they are a good player and the team is well coached, they will likely fit in fairly quickly.

The only transfer I can think of who was a total hot mess for the team was the player at La Tech that Tyler was screwing around with.

Jerrilyn Harper had a phenomenal finish to her career after transferring to TTU. She still holds many records to this day, albeit playing only 3 years there.

Debbie Scott (WKU), Peggy Evans (Ohio St.), and Tasheika Morris (FSU) all had decent finishes to their collegiate careers.

Of course, we prospered early on with several transfers into the Lady Vol program. Patricia Roberts (Emporia St.), Cindy Brogdon (Mercer), Cindy Noble (Ohio St.), and Jill Rankin (Wayland Baptist) all became All-Americans and Olympians and winners of many games.

Lauren Avant? The one who left when CPS announced incoming frosh Massengale was the new starting PG?

Lauren went to D-III Rhodes, blew out her Achilles, then came back to average 25 ppg, 7 rpg, 3 apg, make first team WCBA AA, one of three finalists for POY, and had her jersey sent to the HoF in Knoxville. So yeah, her transfer worked out really well, just not for UT. She's an asst coach for D-II Union now.

Not that it really matters but union is division 2. A top notch program with a great coach that I get the opportunity to watch a lot.

Most transfers work out fine, but they can definitely "rock the boat" depending on the situation. Having the year in between helps get them acclimated, but a lot of time there is potential for bad blood due to them taking playing time away from others or becoming a focal point of the offense.

There is also the risk of the player bringing bad energy to the team. Generally speaking, transfers are a bit more flighty/less committed/loyal to their team, so depending on the transfer situation, you need to account for how the player's personality will mesh with others, and how committed you think the player will be to the new program. When it's a case of homesickness or lack of playing time, I'd think the risk of a player leaving again is lower if they put themselves in a situation to fix it. An example of a "red flag" transfer IMO is Taya Reimer or SWG. Taya left her team twice mid season, then posted some pretty bitter comments on Twitter about her old team losing in the Sweet 16. Lots of red flags surrounding her exit.

SWG was a weird one, but she left the team midseason after earning a starting spot on the #1 team in the country with a great shot to win 3 titles at Tennessee. The transfer to Maryland just didn't make sense with Toliver and Doron on board. Lots of red flags there too.

The UNC exodus made sense and don't present red flags IMO, same with Stevens and Davis transferring to programs with a chance to win a title. Nowadays, transferring is the norm so coaches have to roll with the times and take note. Geno, McGuff and Dawn have done quite well with transfers the last few years, hopefully Holly can make UT an attractive place for top transfers to consider.

Most everything you noted is true of incoming freshmen as well. Typically, key players in the rotation exit every year, and the dynamics change as they adjust to new players. In some ways, it's better with transfers since they have a year with the team and the players can bond and get used to one another.

Interesting about Taya. She seemed like she was confused in many ways about what she wanted. Hopefully she finds what she was looking for at Michigan State. Curiously, what did she say about her old team losing early in the tournament?

She tweeted "What goes around comes around" right after ND lost to Stanford in the tournament. She later removed the tweet, but it had already been retweeted by the South Bend media.

Yeah, she's probably an a-hole.
She was obviously hurt and she reacted very poorly. That sort of schadenfreude cannot help her going forward. She almost transferred when she left the team in the middle of her sophomore campaign and the team/coaches convinced her to return. Then she left again early in her junior and she didn't return.

The reason that Taya did not rejoin the team for her senior season has not been stated. But given her bitterness and the hints of a few posters on "McGraw's Bench" fansite, it seems as if Taya petitioned to rejoin the team and was rebuked by either her former teammates, the coaches, or both. My guess is that after she left the team for the second time, her commitment to the team was questioned and deemed insufficient, especially given her prominent role as team captain. When she was initially told that she could petition to rejoin the team, she may have thought it was HER choice to make, and when she went through the process of petitioning and her request was rejected, she may have wondered why they allowed her to go through the process if they weren't going to take her back anyway.

This is my interpretation of what happened and is conjecture, as I have no inside knowledge of the situation.

I feel bad for Taya, but she did not handle the situation well at all.

If that scenario for how the team rebuked her request to rejoin the team is true, and her teammates turned on her like that, I'd be pressed to think the problem was the other 12 girls on the team. I'm sure they were friends, so for her friends to turn their back on her leads me to think that her reasons for why she was on/off the team so much was not one that they were entirely sympathetic to.

I wasn't much of a fan of hers, to be honest. She came across as very self-unaware and narcissistic.
